Scheduling your move-in date and hour of arrival: myhousing.colostate.edu
You might be right, Teresa.
Good morning and afternoon for some of you. My name is Robin Rachi and I am serving as the assistant director of conference and event services at CSU. I've been in this role for four years now. Prior to that, I served as a resonance director for six years at CSU and then did my graduate work in Western Kentucky University. Ann. I'm originally from Michigan, so super excited to talk to you about moving. I've been the coordinator of campus moving for now for years.
And so I see some questions coming in on the side there an many of them will be able to answer today and so thresa if you could start that first slide.
So what to expect? We wanted to share with you that we are moving to a five day moving process for this year's move in to help with crowds. So the first move in day will be August 17th, Monday starting at 8:00 AM. You'll see that we will have time slots for students to sign up for, and we're working on that database for you to be able to sign up. So we will have 15 residents.
Per haul per hour, being able to move in from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM will have some breaks there just to catch up and do some things, but you will see that we again are working on that database and the next few weeks you'll receive more information about those signups.
Let's see 15 residents and will get to this in a future slide, but we will have. You will be able to have guests help you and so will have two guests per resident, so again, we'll get to that a little bit later on in a slide, but again move in is a five day event with time slots.
OK so I'm I'm going to jump in and talk a little bit about the move in website and some of the details of what to expect actually did a whole presentation on this on Wednesday on all the details of what to bring bike registration, parking, some of the details around what the room looks like. We did a virtual tour so if you have interest in kind of getting a lot more detail on some of that information, go back to the admissions website and you can actually see the recorded.
A conversation regarding those specifics, but the website that is on this slide and also I added some websites to the chat that are referencing several things that were talking about so details around move in what to bring? That's all on the chat function so you can see those details there. There's also important information about lofting, were doing something different this year in the past you would be able to request a lofting setting for your bed. This year we're not providing that as an option because.
We really want to limit the amount of staff members who are going into the rooms before and after the school starts to make those changes so all beds will be lofted at 30 inches rather than making that work order. So something to be aware of. Of course, if you have an Accessibility accommodation is needed, please let us know that is a different scenario and we want to make sure that we can help students at who do need disability accommodation for that.
Some other information you'll find out on the website is how to rent a microfridge were highly recommending that as an option, because if you rent a microfridge and share the cost with the roommates, split the cost with the roommate, the Microfridge will be there when you show up, and then we'll take care of it after the end of the semester, so that's one less thing that needs to be moved up, and it's an economic way to utilize that resource. Obviously you can bring your own microfridge.
An refrigerator, microwave kind of situation, but it's just something to be aware of 'cause it's easier, alright? I think the other pieces that are important to know about is Mail and packages. Often folks are at wondering if you're out of state and we ship things you absolutely can when you get your housing assignment, then I'll probably give a little bit more. Don't assignment since there are a lot of questions about updates on assignments, will circle back to that, but once you get your housing assignment, you can ship things to your residence Hall.
Untere residents how that you're been assigned to but don't ship it early. We really want things to be shipped the week of move in. I'm so students can get connected for some reason. Their ships now will actually be returned back to return center, so we really want to make sure that if you are sending something that it actually is the week that you're moving in and you will be there to receive your packages.
OK, so one of the things that we are going to move on to is just going to some of the questions that we've been receiving already. I'm going to ask some questions of Robin since she's been coordinating a lot of movement and then we will also be asking some of the questions that you have given us in the question and chat area. So Robin, I am going to throw it over to. I'm going to ask you a question and then throw it over to you to answer.
So, uhm, so when it comes to the move in process, can students and their families? Can they show up anytime during those days of move in? Can you provide more details on what that looks like?
Absolutely. So we will provide this on a slide coming up, but I wanted to ask you and here's the slide I wanted to share with you that we really ask you that you sign up for when you're going to be arriving to campus. We recognize that you may not be able to get the whole move in happening in that one hour, but that's OK. We just really need you to sign up for that hour when you're going to be arriving to campus. And so arrivals will be limited.
Again to that, 15 residents per building per hour from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
There's going to be those brakes from noon to one and then five to six you'll be receiving. I know there's a lot of questions coming in about when we are working very diligently. Our tech team on finishing up that database for that to be sent, and so bear with us. We will be getting you that out here in the next hopefully next week, but in the you know, we're working really hard to get that database ready to go and so.
Again, they'll be time slots per hole, and that time slot will again start at 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
And the next slide, Teresa, if you could move that one.
Again, you'll see here that we do ask. So for those of you who are coming from far away out of state out of the country again, we ask that you do your best with trying to determine that hour because we're you know, we're trying to make sure that we keep social distance.
Throughout the entire movement process, and so we will be flexible, of course, but we really, we really hope that you can adhere to that time slot that you signed up for.
And again, if their circumstances that prevent you from coming to your time slot, we do have a website we're going to share that a few times throughout this presentation, but you can go to our website and again will share that website with you again.
So the next question related to that. So what if it takes longer? What if you know the process just took a little longer? We needed to go to target or a different store, make some runs. What happens if I take longer than that hour? Is there a consequense? What's the situation we want to make sure that we're abiding by the procedures that housing is set up to talk a little bit more about how that's going to work.
absolutely and again I know several of you are asking those questions here. We ask that you sign up for that time that you're going to be checking in to get your keys at the Hall, and so that's when we ask that you start the process at that time. At that time that you sign up for and then after that you know we recognize that it might. You might need to run to the store to grab some things you know, that sort of thing. So the process is is that you sign up for that time that you're going to be checking into our front desk to grab your key.
Jeez, that's the goal. The whole process doesn't need to take. You know that hour. But again, we ask that you start during that time. Again, we are going to be flexible. We will certainly be flexible, but if we can all mostly stick to that, it's going to really help with the lines in the social distancing that we require.
We ask also that all residents limit what they bring to campus. Just making the moving process as streamlined as possible. No large furniture, no futons. That sort of thing. And as Teresa shared earlier, we encourage you to rent the Micro Fridges and talk with your roommate once that's assigned, so you can order that and some of the questions on the side had shared, you know more about the cost and size and all that, and we ask you to go to the website and it.
Cheers all of that with you. There was some questions about different sizes and things like that of the rooms. Again, that is on our housing website.
I wanted to add a couple little things. If you have been involved in moving process, whether you've had siblings or.
Brothers and sisters. Other children have gone through Movin at CSU in years past. It will look a lot different than it hasn't passed. I want to manage folks expectation. When you arrive there are people everywhere. It's like a festival. We have student, volunteers, faculty members, other staff members who are there. We really are trying to adhere to the social distancing protocols and so it will look different. We will have staff who are there to help assist. Make sure it's a smooth process and that you feel welcomed and you.
Can get into the halls and get what you need, but it will not be a large group of people kind of gathering around like it has been in past and I just want to put that out there 'cause I know often times when you talk to other people have been through this. They give you a lot of coaching on what it looks like and it is going to look a lot different. So just wanted to put that out there. It will look different.
I also wanted to address a couple of questions around how this moving process coordinates with assignments, so obviously you need to have your Hallaton Room assignment before you can do your move in Slaton. So one thing to be aware of is that we will be completing all of the housing assignments by July 27th, and so next week. Hopefully the movement information will go out, so that's something that's kind of all coordinating together. It's a lot of work in pieces and also one thing to be aware of is that because of Covid we did kind of put a pause.
I'm putting out some of the Hall assignments in March, so all of that is catching up now and their finishing it and it will be happening on July 27. So really, thanks for your patience. 'cause I know this lots of folks have been asking when will I get my hole assignment? When will I be able to find out my room assignment? All that kind of stuff so it's kind of coming all together right now and those emails about the move in process and also updating your housing stuff has been sent out to email so hopefully.
That's all coming together and you're getting that information.
Nice one of the questions on the side. There I wanted to address is with dining so dining is open on that Monday. So just now there is a few questions about dining. So yes, dining will be open and then as well as there were some parking questions and so will have more details. Once we send that out. But just as a broad brush stroke of parking is that we have unloading zones where you can unload your things for 30 minutes. You know closer to the building and then we have parking.
Designations for parking and so as far as that goes, once you get to campus and or before, you can go ahead and look into parking. But again will have unloading zones. An parking available.
So as this next question comes through and again will address this a few times, but you have two, you are able to bring 2 guests or helpers to help you move in per resident, so I know there was a few questions about who you can bring and that sort of thing. So we just ask again that were super excited to see you and maybe the whole family wants to come. But we do ask that you know, per resident you have two guests.
We are not allowing overnight guests in the residence halls and so please consider that as well after the helpers are movers help you move in. We ask that you know that's.
Yeah, no overnight guests in the residence halls.
Call tiers available at the residence Hall. When I arrived you can talk a little bit more about that. I gave a little bit of prior information, but this is some more detail about what that looks like.
Yep, and so we won't have again. If you have had come prior to to CSU for a move in this year is going to look a little different. As treasa mentioned, we will absolutely have folks available, but we won't have the sheer numbers visible for you to see and so we won't have them move in helpers to help you carry your belongings. But we will have people directing and giving you asking.
Answering questions for you so.
It prevents crowding, and we really need to adhere to the physical distance in guidelines, you may choose to bring your own carts and alleys. I know a lot of questions on the side there about Carson Daly's. You can choose to bring your own, but we will have a limited number of Carson Daly's for you to be able to check out and so you can do that either at your front desk or there is a few tenths set up outside for moving. But again we will have some carts and alleys, but if you have one please bring it.
Might help with the process.
But see, we will after each use we will clean those carts down. So I just wanted to share that as well. Will be cleaning.
A lot during the day an anything of carts will will get to that as well. So after every use.
Yeah, that's one of the things I wanted to add. We talked about in the session about what to expect in the halls in general are protocol for cleaning has drastically increased so on the floors will have hand sanitizer at the desk hand sanitizers as well and then the bathrooms for community hallways and bathrooms will be cleaned twice a day and then there will be additional cleaning for the suite style rooms and then cleaning supplies that students can check out at the desk.
As well and then obviously we help students bring their own supplies as well. So we really want to make sure that you understand the emphasis that we are going to be doing a lot of cleaning throughout the day, specifically through the move in week, but that will continue throughout the whole semester. But one thing I also wanted to make reference to you and I put a link in the chat. Is there a lot of information about just the University standards around covid? Whether it's how to attend classes, what are?
Expectations pre semester no checklist. There's actually a listing of a covid kit so students are asked to bring 2 masks, disinfectants, hand sanitizers, 30 days of prescription medication they may need and some just some general flu and cold medicine should they need that. So go to that website 'cause I think it's very helpful. It also will be updated periodically throughout every week so it's a really good research.
Resource to check out as the year and the semester progress is.
So our face coverings required during move in.
Yes, all students there gas staff are required to wear face covering in the public spaces and on University grounds, including outdoors at all times. We really ask that you wear that at all times even when you're moving your belongings, because again, we really want to keep this as safe.
As possible during move in and so please wear your face covering at all times. We will have, uh, some face masks available if you forget it, but we ask that please wear a face covering it all times, yes.
Certainly, any items that are not equipped with ring.
Yes, this year, large items and furniture such as couches, futons, Entertainment, System Lock, just large chairs there prohibited. This is in order to ensure an efficient move in and mitigate long lines and crowding. Please also see below the bed lofting is not possible this year, and so we had mentioned that earlier, but we're not doing bed lofting. There is more specifics to the dimensions and the height.
Of the bed. Lofting in our website. Smaller furniture such as folding chairs. Easy to move that's permittable, but again those large items are not permissible and again please go to the housing website where it gives much more details for those specific items. I see some questions coming through about you know can this item this item but please go to the website and it really is more specific as to those items.
OK, and it looks like I'm Robbins already kind of talked about lofting so will just kind of move on from there.
So this is a little bit more information about the Microfridge, so my roommate I've decided to purchase a micro fridge and microwave. Are those still allowed?
Absolutely. And if you go to the website, you'll be able to see the cost and all that good stuff there. We encourage you to use. Take advantage of this and chat with your roommate about it. Or if you want your own, that's fine too. You and your roommate can either split the costs, or you can have your own, but we recommend that and so.
This way it will be available in your room prior to your arrival. We put those in the rooms. Once you order that and so again, it's just one less thing for you to carry up wherever you're living and it will be available once you move in and then the same thing when you move out. You just leave it in the room and it's just a rented item and so again, it's one less thing for you to worry about.
Yeah, and so this question is about shipping items ahead of time, so can you talk a little bit more about that?
Yes, so we're really excited about this option for students. And again, this will be available on the website in the very near future. What this is is we encourage you to ship your items ahead of time you will be using the on the website. There will be a third party vendor that you're able to work with and you know.
Pay for all in advance and so you can have your items shipped to your room placed in your room and when you arrive to campus, they'll already be in your room, so we do highly recommend this option if it's available.
If not, if it's available it is available, but.
It is available and we highly recommend it.
At this point there, as we as we had shared, will go on to your questions, and we're going to kind of go through here and the questions you can't see them. But Robin and I will kind of go through some of them. Many of them are duplicated, and I also wrote some notes of some things that I can update that folks are interested in hearing about. So one of the questions on that was in there, and I've gotten a question. Another webinars is about the ram card, which is the card that you used to use for your dining plan that you can use.
For pretty much everything to kind of, get you access to lots of things on campus. So right now there are actually finalizing the protocol for how students will receive that, so that should be coming very soon. Again, this is one of those times will say that will come to you soon and the information is not detailed yet, but I did want to let you know that I'm looking into that. It should be sent out very soon so you get some more details of how you'll receive it. An when that will be getting to students for the beginning of the semester. So more to come.
Is the answer on that one. Another question was things like the rec center. Will that be open? And that's one of the things actually I have been really wanting to know about as well because of the nature of the rec center and students utilizing that. From what I've heard 'cause I work out there pretty much three or four times a week as well. They are working on that right now. I don't know what the hours will be. There could be some smaller sort of organized events there, so it's TBA.
With what's going on with the rec center that they are looking into? Sort of how students can access that still. So lots of details are still being ironed out, and just so you know, the rationale is that we're trying to adhere to all the safety standards, so sometimes things will change throughout the month and we still have a little bit of time before the semester starting, so that is what the wait for is for. Is making sure that we're up to date with the most recent health and safety standards. So more to come on that as well.
Also, a question that came through is around fall break. Last week there was an email that went out is if a student needs to stay for fall break they should let us know and the reason why we want to know early would be open to that my housing.colostate.edu to let us know if you do need to stay past fall break. We do have designated halls where you will be assigned and you will stay in that Hall all the way until fall break and afterwards we don't want students to have to move.
Again, for that social distancing issue, and also we don't want to have students to have to move and have lots of people in and out of rooms and coordinating that during November weather and things like that. So that could impact on your your assignment. So if you are a student who do need who does need to accommodate for having extended stay in fall, that will potentially change your room assignment. The other thing to also be aware of it.
If you go to the website and look at rates, students who are staying for the extended fall break that will impact the rate of your housing because you're adding an extra days to stay as well.
We also do have holes that are open for winter break, so if you're a student who does need to stay through winter break, often times that we have a handful. Probably. I don't know 50 to 100 students who do stay over winter break. We can accommodate you as well, so the University will be open and there will be dining for students through the break. So now that there is an option for folks as well, I'm going to take a break and see if there are questions that Robin is thinking out. Just 'cause I've been talking a lot and you probably want to hear someone else's voice for a little bit.
So I'm scrolling through an again. A lot of you are asking which I absolutely I know. I understand the excitement you'll be able to once we can put our database together for those time, slots were going to get that out to you. And so again, we're hoping within the next week or two, you'll be hearing more information about those time slots, so I know. Again, we're super excited to see you and I know you're super excited to get here. And some of you are traveling from out of state.
And out of the country. So again, we're working really **** ** getting that ready to go for you. So I just wanted to reiterate that we're hoping in the next 2 weeks we're going to get that out.
One of the questions I'm seeing is after my student is moved in or after I've moved in, can I have people come up to my room to help me further move in? Or you know, visit so one of the things that is new protocol is and this is related to social distancing is just guessed visiting the residence. Also, this once a student is moved in and then moving forward, we're really not going to have guests in the residence Hall beyond the students who live on those floors and in those halls.
Which I know that's a difficult, but I think we're really trying to make sure that we don't have large gatherings up on the floors. We have a great system for the students who are residing there, but we won't be having large floor meetings where students are gathering on the floors. The only place that students can have visitors are either in the lobbies in the general public area or outside, so that's one of the things to really think about when you're planning is that students won't be having a lot of guests.
Come over In addition to just visiting, there won't be any.
Ability to have overnight guests, so that's just something to be aware of. 'cause That's a big shift, and it really is a health and safety standards that were really trying to focus on with that.
Protocol that's been created.
Interesa to add as far as Gesco again. I'm reading through the questions here. Some of you want to bring siblings, including various family members. Again, we just ask if you could please limit two people per student coming in and out of the building. We really want to stress that so even if maybe not all at once, you can bring your family in. Would be a suggestion or just really trying to do our part to limit the amount of people coming into the buildings at the same time.
And so again, I know I have siblings and I went to college and bring the whole family in at once. We really want to try to limit it to two guests per resident when you're moving in. And so again, if you can just adhere to that, it's going to be very helpful for the process.
One detail I wanted to provide is around the cancellation um housing cancellation. So if you have decided that you're going to come to see issue and live in housing, you have up until August 14th to decide if you are going to cancel your housing. So that's one of the things just to be aware of. You would get a full refund of your $350.00, so the details about that are on the housing website that I've added. And then there's also information about.
Exemptions, so let's say you decided that you are going to come to see issue, but moving into housing might not be something that might work for you. So there is a process for an exemption and it is on our housing website. I will add the URL in a little bit for the exemption, but you can find that in the FAQ tab within our housing website and basically will just go through that and fill that out, provide some of the rationale for your need to exempt and then it will go through that process. So that's the best way to sort of.
Means that if you're still at I'm wanting to attend the issue but not live in the residence halls, so just kind of an FY on that question.
There's another question about the shipping portion. So just to reiterate that there will be options to ship your items 2 campus to your room.
Before you move, and so they'll be more information on that third party vendor. As far as shipping your things to your room before you get there. So I want to reiterate that will be available. I would say again in the next 2 or so weeks we're going to have that information for you, so again, you can ship your items and we recommend it. If you can do that beforehand so that you get to campus, you get your key and you go to your room and all of your things are already there. So we do recommend that, and that will be available on the website within the next.
Very shortly, within the next 2 weeks.
So this is a question we get every year and it's always good to confirm even with some of the shifting that we're having. So students will leave at fall break if they have decided not to extend fall break housing all of their belongings remain in their room. We actually go through a whole security process to make sure every make sure everything is locked up. The Hall is secure, and then you will have those things. If you're not returning until spring semester in January, all of your stuff will remain in your room, secured and locked until you return in January. So that's
a good thing. Just to confirm, oftentimes folks are wondering, do I move everything back out and bring them back in? I also recommend if you have things that are have high value, like a laptop bicycle.
Hi I hi expensive things bring them home. Obviously you know leaving your bike locked outside might not be so great. Bring it home with you. That's the best option. We do have some storage stuff, storage areas in the basement of the beach residence. Also students can put large luggage when they move in and then access that when they start to travel back home. So we do have some limited stuff. Often people are asking about what can I store as far as large items in my room.
You can keep something like your bike in your room, but during the academic year. Think about I'm living with another person.
You definitely need to have a clear egress, so not a situation where you have a bicycle right in front of your door and you have to move it every time you exit. So one roommates need to talk about what that setup looks like in two and it has to have a safe egress that the students can leave a room and we will have a security or a health and safety check in. It may look a little bit different this year is we don't want to have as many staff members coming in and out of rooms, but we definitely want to make sure that we are fire safety plans.
Are still sort of in place, so huge bicycles and things like that. We don't want them to be blocking doors or in hallways. Things like that. So just want to put that out there as well.
Teresa, I just wanna share on the questions coming in. This is just it's a you are awesome. These questions are there great. I wanted to share with.
Our numbers with the 15 residents per haul per hour. Some of your questions on the side, and again, I appreciate you asking. It was so can we stay in the room after we removed in of course, absolutely once removed in. That's your room. We just again ask that we're trying to, you know, for the move in process, those that first week that we sign up so that people are moving in. During that time, we recognize that you know, some people might take shorter times longer times, that sort of thing, but we're trying to do our best to be as efficient and organized.
Is this possible? So just so you know, reiterate, please do your best to check in during the time that you signed up for so that we keep the flow of the minimal number of people, but once you're moved in you're welcome to stay in the room and do your thing. But again, we ask that that check in process occurs in that order. So again, just to be a safe, efficient, organized as possible.
Great question that came through is what happens if a student does become sick with the virus and there in a shared room? So we actually have a designated quarantine space in corporate Holla. An entire wing that is sectioned off with a different sort of entrance and things like that. So we do have a protocol for that. It's actually on the COVID-19.
University page and also in housing. There is a pretty detailed protocol for how that works by students. Get support through the CSU Health Network, how they get meals they really thought through it because as we know student can be asymptomatic, so they still have the opportunity to still be involved with virtual classes and keeping up to date with their academics. But they do need to be quarantined so there is a protocol regarding that and make sure to check that out because it's important to us that you know that we've thought about it students.
Will be socially they will be distance from a roommate, so make sure to check that out because we do have something planned for that.
A question that usually comes right along with the other question is what happens if we close down again? What will you do? And so I think we've learned a lot from the spring since that did happen. We did some things really well and some things that we would do differently, and so I'd say right now there isn't a protocol up for that because we're hoping that things go well and will move forward as planned. But if something does happen, we will communicate that rapidly and provide more information. We also do you want to hear from you if you have questions or concerns, so I know it's not helpful to say.
Hum, that's in the progress, or we don't know yet. But as with everything else in life during covid, we don't know yet, and so I just wanted to at least acknowledge the question and know that it's on everyone's mind. What if that?
And so that's something that we are thinking about. We just don't have the specifics, because every time something happens, it's always a little bit different. So thanks for people have been asking that question and the concern 'cause we are very.
Concerned about what happens as well, so just wanted to address that openly.
Folks are asking on the side and for you all to know about the safety precautions that we're using. We are in every hole we are going to be having. We're going to do our best to do one way traffic and so again.
The questions on the side are you know more about the safety pieces and the move in and all of that is we're going to really do our best to be as organized as possible, and so some of the hallways you'll see you know. Please move this way. Please move. You know, one way traffic we're trying our best we're going to.
You know it's all about safety, and so again.
Organization efficiency, safety. We are planning that as we speak an we have it in motion and so again your questions on the side here are, you know what happens after move in. Can I stand the room? Absolutely, I just want to stress that we're doing our best to be as efficient and safe as possible, and so our halls will be set up with some sort of design where wait here, keep the six feet separation and so some of the hallways are a little bit tighter.
But we're going to do our best to be as organized as possible with that.
So question around meal plans suggest to be clear when a student moves in, that is when their meal plan starts. So we'll have the dining centers open and operational that we can once you move in, and we do that process where student kind of does the check in process. That is, when their meal plan activates and they'll start utilizing that. So that's something to be aware of, and you have two weeks after the first. Once you move in on to adjust that. So let's say you got.
21 meals a week and student has realized I'm not using that as much as I want you can go down within that first 2 weeks. A lot of students do start out at 14 meals. They often will have meals sort of like breakfast things in their refrigerator, or warm things up in a microwave. So that's something to think about within those two weeks, you can move down and then anytime after the first 2 weeks you can always bump up. So that's just something to be aware of. As far as meals included in your meal plan, you also have.
$150 for ram cache and so you can utilize those $150 for things like vending machines printing um at the library or other kind of venues around campus of Lower Student Center. You can use it at some of the meal locations that are outside of dining in the Lory Student Center. You can pay parking tickets. Hopefully that's nothing that shouldn't have to deal too much with, so it's really helpful cash to be utilized that another question that a lot of folks ask, do you use ramcast for laundry?
And about a year ago we changed the way laundry is delivered at CSU. It's included in your board cost, so your room and board so the laundry machines are sometimes in the wings of the Hall, some in the basement, and that is included in the price. So there just open for you to utilize that means.
Students you can wash your clothes whenever you want to. There is no need for quarters or adding more money into ram. Cache parents and family members guest. That's good to know so you can tell your students wash your clothes. You don't have to bring them home. You actually have access to those laundry services because you have already paid for them. So the staff who live in the resin assistance often do a laundry program. And basically how to do your laundry. How to sort colors, things like that.
Also, you can Start learning how to do that this summer. Right now that's a fun thing to do, so getting ready to do the adulting thing. It's kind of fun. So anyway, is the laundry machines or front loading high capacity? A lot of times people wonder. Can you use pods and liquid and stuff? All of those are work well within those laundry machines, so and we always have staff at the front desk, should there be any questions? If you need anything like that, so questions that we get all the time around laundry machines, we have them there. Awesome.
What are some questions about our local Fort Collins or area students? So welcome soon to be.
We wanted to share with you that although it seems, uh, if you could just move your stuff in beforehand. No, we do ask that you sign up for again a time during our five day period to bring in your stuff. And so again, I know you're super close and could do it beforehand, but we need to be as organized and efficient as possible and so please just sign up for a time as well.
A couple questions about room sink and so today is actually the deadline to finalize finding a roommate through room sink and so that is a link that you would have been emailed out if you received your hole assignment prior. If you have not received a room sink link to make that mutual match and you will be assigned one by University housing based on the questions that you answered in your housing application.
So that could be a large number of people right now who filled out their application past March or even later than that, so you will be getting your housing or your whole assignment and your roommate assignment all at once, so I know that's a little bit of a disappointment. That today is the last day, but one of the things that's super important because everyone is asking when will I get my assignment? When can I move in? All of that is because we need to close things up and move on so we can get you ready to come here so.
It's one of those details that is difficult to manage, but today is the deadline. So if you do have the link please that rap that up today and will be moving forward with that. So just wanted to kind of confirm that information that today is the deadline.
There was some questions at least two or three about TV's, and so again, we just ask. Large items are prohibited, so just an easy move in move out. You can bring a TV though. I just wanted to clarify that.
There's also questions about should an out of state student bring a bike. Now I know that to ship a bike is difficult, although there is actually the option to do that. I'm a cyclist and you can if you there's a couple of airlines that you can put a bike in a box and it can be the same charges under $50.00 with the same as luggage. So if you can look into that and then reassemble your bike when you get here, that is an option. There is also option to purchase a bike when you get here.
There's a shop that is actually right on campus called recycled cycles, and you know, I've seen bicycles that are range between $100 to you could spend a huge amount of money on bicycles and I will share that. I ride my bike when things are kind of the normal process every single day, and I use my old crappy bike because I really just want a nice commute from either meetings or classes to back home and so often times I don't have my fanciest road cycle that's $3000 I actually bring.
My 12 year old bike that nobody cares about. I use a U lock to lock that up so an option is to get a used bike or find something locally. Do acknowledge that four columns ansi issue does have a high rate of bike theft so the CSU PD has done great presentations about how to make sure that your bike is secure. We do not have enough space for students to put their bike in their room or inside a basement, so the best bet to secure bike is on a bike rack with a U lock. So just want to.
Um, share that piece. The culture around campus is that people really do. Ride lots of bikes actually on campus. Just this week, they've done a lot of updates as far as some of the bike paths and updating that stuff we really have such a great bike system and students can get around Fort Collins safely on their bike, and so that's one of the things that, if you're like, oh, I need to have a car. I just want to confirm that you actually can get around Fort Collins.
Within about 5 miles and also with the Max and transportation without a car. So something to look into.
Even if you're an out of state student purchasing a bike for pretty inexpensive price is an option.
And on that note, Teresa, again with parking questions, you know, please go to the website to look at the rates and the locations of parking. Some of the questions are is there free parking available? There is not free parking available on campus, so I just wanted to share with you. If you are bringing a vehicle you will need to purchase a parking pass and all of that information is on the parking website as well during move in. However, we are and you'll get that and again I.
Keep saying the website, but we have unloading zones an places to part during move in and so just be on the lookout for that. But we recommend that if you are bringing a car to campus, take a look at the parking options in the rates available.
There is another. There is a few questions about shipping and I shared this a while ago, but for those of you who may have missed it again, you can ship your things an advance not to be confused. So I want to be really clear about this so we have a third party vendor that you're going to be able to ship your things in advance so that your belongings are in your room when you arrive. When Teresa had mentioned we don't have.
You can't ship your things to your room.
So, uhm, I don't want to get too confusing here at all, but.
We have a third party vendor that you're going to be able to use starting in the next few weeks that you can ship your belongings to your room from the third party vendor.
If you have your room assignment now and you send to your room assignment your belongings, they will not arrive.
So again, I don't know if Teresa does that make sense to you. I want to see if any questions come in on that, but there was just some questions about shipping.
Yeah, I think that makes sense, but I will say that once the move in information where you can sign up your your slot, I think all of that will probably fall together. So one of the things that's important. The sequence of things is get your hole in room assignment, then get your sign up for your movement, move in time, then make your travel plans which include potentially shipping. So hopefully that will all fall together in the next week or two, which I know this is the huge amount of stress with everyone trying to manage that.
Um, with everything that's kind of needed for planning with this move in. So keep an eye out for that website and also feel free to contact us if you have questions. I know right now that most of the questions that we are fielding are coming through the email and also through our website in the next couple of weeks we actually will shift to having our staff available to call with specific questions that are related to assignments.
And you're moving process, so that will be happening. You'll get some information that will be going out so you will be able to.
Contact people and do some problem solving and get answers, questions, answers to your questions. My goodness in real time with someone on the phone so I know that's things that people have been asking about. You know one question. I also wanted to address is if you're not feeling comfortable with living on campus because of the status of Cove it. Again, you have the ability and perhaps you're not going to be living in housing or you've decided not to attend. You do have that until.
August 14th to cancel your housing and get a full refund of 100, three $150. I also think through the rim orientation process if you're trying to reconsider the format and how you're attending classes. I think talking to an academic advisor housing folks are not the best people to advise you on how to register for classes or on line learning or things like that, but I do feel like the window of time to kind of weigh your options as far as on line learning in person.
CSU and the first year experience. There is still a window of time to kind of negotiate that, so look into that. Now. We do understand there's a lot of variables to consider moving forward, but we will give you a full refund if you let us know by August 14th as well.
There are a lot of questions about, well, they'll be Rapid Cove in testing. Will there be, uhm, you know things like tracing things like that if you go to the COVID-19 website they will give you lots of up to date information on all those protocols. What is required for students to do with a symptom checkers? Things like that. What's required for them to go to class? It's pretty straightforward, but the same time I feel like the best answer to that is to make sure that you're looking at that website.
To give you information on what that looks like, and it's possible that that information will be evolving as more resources on the national and federal level are also available. So that's the best answer I can provide regarding the tracing, an testing and symptom tracking. As far as how it relates to see issues protocol, let's see I saw a question about parents and eating meals in the dining center in the past we've had parent family meals were actually.
Changing that to bonus meals, all students have 20 extra meals on their meal plan, and so if someone does come to visit, or you know, if your local or you have to be in town, student can use another bonus meals to pay for a parent, sibling, guest, and so that's how we're doing that. On Monday, there was a really great session on dining, everything dining, and there are some new innovative things that are happening with dining. As far as putting in your order in advance.
With their app, the social distancing protocols, things like that, so I do highly recommend looking at the dining website FAQ. Things like that students will be getting a reusable cutlery set, so we're not totally always throwing my plastic when students are getting to go boxes, but I do think one thing to think about is you're moving in. It's really helpful for students to have something like dish soap, water, you know there's there's kitchens on the floors that you know students need to be aware of. As far as social distancing.
No be sinks in the the community rooms and also in suite style rooms to students should be kind of conscious if they are deciding to kind of eat meals in their room or away from the dining center to be conscious of using the compost bins, making sure that their cleaning some of their own things just to make sure that in a tight space.
Not leaving things behind, I think during normal times our community areas and kitchens can get pretty gross and I just think we need to even be more conscious because of needing to have good hygiene. So I think coming to campus with some extra cleaning supplies to wash your dishes and then not always throwing away plastic stuff is really important and we are really stepping up our composting program. See issue is pretty much.
The standard when it comes to universities around sustainability, we had a great session yesterday. If you want to check that out. So many good resources. So we're about the last five minutes. And so Robin is kind of the expert with a lot of our movement stuff, so I'm going to see if there's anything that you want to emphasize. Summarize for maybe folks that came in a little bit later, or just to make sure that you know the most important things are kind of being summarized for folks as we start to wrap up.
Thanks Teresa, yet I wanted to share that we will have staff available during the days outside. We will be wearing masks an wearing some sort of CSU gear and so for parking questions somewhere to go questions. We will still have available staff.
Out and about. During the five day event, and so you know, there's some parking questions there. Again, these things will be able to direct day of, but during move in we are more flexible with parking and so we're going to have unloading zones. And then we're going to have places for people to park. If you're a student in your bringing your car, we recommend you get your parking pass. But again, we're going to be available throughout the time you're going to be able to ask us questions. We're all going to have masks on during that time as well.
And so a lot of again your questions are about the timing and how this is working. Please know we are furbish Lee working on this database and we hope to have it out to you. And so like Trissa said, once you get your assignment which is being worked on, an will get that to that to you in the near future. You're going to be able to sign up for a time and then we ask that you please do your best to adhere to that time, but there will be flexibility. We understand things happen.
And so again, please continue to check out our website. We have lots of friendly people on the other end of the phone calls that will be happening an as well as will be responding as quickly as possible to your questions through our website, so please take some time and look at our website and we keep that as up to date as possible.
Lastly is last thing OK, I just so it's just reiterate we are we are all working our hardest and to get this as safe as efficient and as organized as possible and we're pretty much almost there. And so we really appreciate your patience and we do appreciate your questions as well and so please just know that your safety is our utmost concern.
I saw a few questions around residential learning community such as honors key and so one of the things in the past you might have heard that those specific learning communities moved in early to be part of a specific program this year that will be different. So the time that you sign up and move in will be the time that you arrive. There is no specific day for honors or any of those learning communities or specific academic programs. In addition, if you're nervous.
Oh, you know I'm in honors, but I live in a different hole because of the nature of Covid you can be in a learning community and live in a different Hall that has sort of been designated as that. Learning community will be a lot of virtual community building around that, so I wanted to just confirm that question. 'cause it's been kind of out there. If I'm in a learning community, do I come at a different time? And what if I'm not assigned to what's been traditionally the Engineering Building or the honors building? We will have students in learning communities and all the buildings and.
They're kind of planning around that, so we just wanted to make sure that confirm that's happening. Many of the residential learning community have had webinars this week as well, so you can go back and see what those staff members have shared regarding those programs. So, OK, we're right at the end. Thank you so much for your patience. This is really a difficult time trying to navigate the transition of coming to college is difficult already. Mix of a pandemic is even more difficult.
So thanks for your patience. Sometimes the audio is not the best on these. This is a little bit different than what a student uses with the classroom setting, so just wanted to acknowledge this is not a student experiences. This is more of just administrative platform so thank you so much for your participation. Very grateful for your attention and asking so many great questions. So thanks so much.
