Scholarships in the College of Liberal Arts
OK, I'll do the intro welcome. I'm so glad you're all here. This is our CSU College of Liberal Arts scholarship focused webinar. My name is Jessica Rencher Ann. I am the recruitment coordinator for the College of Liberal Arts and I am also a grad student. I'm joined by two colleagues, one colors cool wise and I'll let him introduce himself in a second and the other is Jenna more. She is a student ambassador but we work closely together on all the webinars.
She's one of our coordinators and has a scholarship position so cold you want to introduce yourself talk a little bit about what you do and then Jenna. Do you want to share as well?
Alright, thank you. My name is Jenna and I am a junior at CSU. I'm studying music performance and minoring in arts administration and leadership, and then I am also on the College of Liberal Arts Ambassador Team, which is mostly a volunteer team. But there are three leadership positions that offer scholarships and one of which I hold and apply for. So I do the campus events and marketing side of things.

Thank you so much call, I really appreciate you taking time to walk us through all that. As usual, it's always so very for informative and I always learn something new from listening. So I'm excited that we are going to have an opportunity for you all to ask cool questions. If you have a cold or question for coal, you can type it in the chat. Ann will make sure that those are being answered while you're thinking of your questions and you're typing them in the chat. I'm going to turn it over to Jenna in ask her some questions.
Just about her student experience with scholarships. Jenna is a current student and one of our ambassadors and she is a recipient of a couple different scholarships. So Jenna, I would love to hear about your process looking for scholarships and then also if you could just highlight a few that have been useful to you.
Sure, so I've done scholarships a couple of different ways. Like I mentioned before that I'm getting a scholarship by being on the liberal arts Ambassador team, and to get that one there was. It was almost like a job interview where they wanted the resume and cover letter, and then I had to go through an interview process in order to get the position. And when I was selected I got the scholarship.
I did do the CSU essayan by doing that and found it picking up that I was in a fraternity or sorority. It gave me more opportunities for scholarships through those organizations and I ended up getting another one through that. For that I did have to do the thing where you send a thank you note in your picture and everything like that. I've also gotten scholarships by being involved in other organizations like Marching Band gives you a scholarship.
And then as you, it was a little different this year because of covid. But usually as you go up in grade levels and continue to be in the marching band organization, you will have the opportunity to increase your scholarship and that also requires a thank you note to the donors who provide that.
And then the other most significant one would probably be me being involved in the Honors program gives a scholarship as well.
Thank you so much. I have a question for Cole because Cole also was the recipient of scholarship. Even though you're not a student anymore. Cole, I would love for you to share with that process was like for you.
Yeah, I think that's very true. I think a lot of times some of many of us will rule ourselves out for scholarships. Will think, oh, you know, I don't think I should apply for this. I probably won't get it. And the thing that all of us have learned is that very often you actually have a really good chance of getting it. And as Cole mentioned, you know he applied for a very competitive.
Scholarship program and Jenna has some competitive scholarships, but we also have some wonderful scholarships. Like Cole mentioned, where nobody's applied and you know they're equally excellent scholarships, people just didn't see them or didn't think to apply, and so I think always keep in mind that it never hurts to apply for a scholarship. And the more that you apply for the better. So I mean one that I really think.
Said
you know, would be a great one for all of you to apply for is the Blake Leadership Scholars program within the College of Liberal Arts, and again, just to reiterate that one, you know you if you're in the Honors program, it's in the College of Liberal Arts.
You're interested in getting some mentorship from a faculty member and going through CSU with a really great cohort. I highly recommend you apply for that. It's highly competitive, very similar to you know the scholarship that Cole had, where it's one of those you know.
Programs that it has so many benefits. A lot of people do apply, but it's definitely worth it. Like he was saying so.
If you're interested in that, I can provide more information, but I want to steer back to Jenna and Jenna I have just I'm just curious. Are there things that you know now about the scholarship process that you didn't know when you were 18 and looking at college?
Well, originally I was thinking going into college, but my only opportunity to get scholarships, something cold touched on this before it was like before going to college and I thought like after that that was that I was not going to get any additional ones so I was kind of surprised to learn that if you're a sophomore or junior and your keep going to school, you're going to have a lot more opportunities to continue getting scholarships. And actually for my junior year I have more scholarships than I did coming into college, which is pretty cool I think.

We don't have any questions. I think we can wrap this up. I think we covered some great content. And again, here's our contact information if you need it, and we're really excited for you all. We always tell participants. Obviously we want you to choose CSU. Jenna chose it. I chose it. Cole did, but at the end of the day, more importantly than you choosing CSU is that you have all the information to get to make the choice that you need to for yourself. The last thing we want to do is convince you to come here and then you find out it's not a good fit.
So our hope is that we're able to give you the information that lets you assess and see if it is a good fit for you and that you end up where you need to be. This is an exciting time. College is one of the best times, just the friends you make and the classes you taken. The activities you can be involved in and so please reach out to us with any questions we're excited for you and Jenn and Cold. Do you have anything else you want to say?
Yes, alright have a great rest of your day.
