Sam, I would try to get as close to the word count as you can without going over. This will help ensure that the questions are answered in full and allow you to share more about yourself!
call Chris Posse for just a second. We have a few questions that came up in the chat and we've all been working our way through them, but I was wondering if I could just run a few past you an if you're going to cover the information a little later. Great if not, if you don't mind answering them.
We have one I'm from Fort Collins and I'm interested in knowing more about the Blake Leadership Scholarship or Scholars program for this one, I put the link in the chat, but it also further down in the chat. They were asking about if their materials could be reviewed ahead of time. What does your team do when it comes to reviewing that scholars program?
Yeah, that's great. Are you up for a couple more questions? And then I'll let you keep going.
Jevon McKinney
02:17:49 PM

OK, thank you. This one is from Abby and she just said I'm from Denver and I'm curious about the Merit Scholarships. I provided a link in the chat for her to get more information about that, but is there anything in particular that you think that or any other resources I should direct Abby to?
Jenna Moore
02:18:16 PM

OK, thank you and then. This is not a question to be answered, but if you can weave it into your slides just strategies regarding scholarships is another one area of interest. This one is I'm from Colorado Springs and I'm interested in knowing more about media communication. So that would be definitely.
I would say come to our afternoon general information session at 5:00 PM and we also have a few others throughout the week so I can give you more information about that.
Looking at art related or academic scholarships and how to apply so cold is going to be speaking to that more. I just didn't want us to get behind with these questions.
Reham Abdunabi
02:21:07 PM
How will merit scholarships wokr if you don't have an SAT score?
OK, I think this one's from Sam. I was just wondering if we need to meet the 1500 word limit or if it is preferred that essays be a little shorter.
I think it depends on the scholarship.
Abi Horton
02:21:57 PM
Can you get merit scholarships for something you aren't majoring in?
Cat OK will stop with questions for a little bit. We do have more, but I don't want to slow you down on your slides anymore and then Pete Jenning Katrina if you can keep trying to answer what we can with links and things will call. Cool continues to present thanks Cool.
Call, I'm just seeing a question here in.
Yeah, in the chat it says can we repurpose parts of the CS USA essays for the Blake application?
And while we're on the Blake Leadership Scholars program, Pete, would you share a little bit about your experience having earned that and just anything that you think are participants should know?
Yeah, absolutely. So I'm a sophomore, so I guess I applied for it two years ago. So for Apple or perspective applicants like everyone in this web and R, you need to have above a 4.0 GPA and then you'll be able to fill out that application after you fill out your CS USA. So will be one of those ones that you can match with. Or you can just search it up so there's like I think one or two questions that they ask in the separate application and you fill that out.
Jessica Rencher
02:28:02 PM
Here's the link Cole mentioned: https://www.libarts.colostate.edu/students/scholarships/
And then from there there's going to be that application committee and they're going to read over your essays. And if they like what you wrote, they'll invite you for an interview and that'll be held remotely regardless of covid or not because people are spaced differently, so you'll have a like Skype interview or a teams interview, and then from there if they like your interview in addition to your essays, they'll reach out to you saying you have a spot within the Scholars program, so it's the scholars program. It's also a two fold reward. It's not just a scholarship, it's also.
An actual scholars program, so you're with a cohort of fellow liberal arts students, and then when you're a freshman your freshman year, you meet up with a professor who will guide you through leadership in the liberal arts and how to think like more in that aspect of like communication and what that looks like. Being a good leader within the liberal arts. It's also a great resource for you. You meet many like you meet the assistant Dean. You have great resources like coal eyes.
He is slightly involved with it and then also that Professor ends up being a great mentor for you as well throughout college.
Junior year there's going to be another class that you take, and there's also service projects that you partake in within the program, along with several events throughout the academic year.
Ana Zuluaga
02:29:12 PM
Can/should you apply if you're not committed to CSU yet?
Thank you so much much to our participants. If you have any questions for Pete, let me know can can should you apply if you're not committed to CSU yet, Pete, what would you say?
Avery Stafford
02:29:15 PM
Do you know of any programs or stipends for music, for example if students perform in school events (ex. symphony, marching/pep band)?
Reham Abdunabi
02:29:18 PM
How much does the Blake Scholarship Cover?
If you're not committed, absolutely apply. I mean, there's multiple applicants, which means still fill out that CSU essay, just in general. And the worst thing that happens is you decide no, and then they'll like. Reallocate those funds. And that goes for the Blake leadership scholars position too, so.
Great call, this one is for you. How much does the Blake Scholars Leadership Scholars program cover?
Ana Zuluaga
02:29:42 PM
Thank you!
Great thank you. Are there any scholarships specifically in graphic design that you would recommend students apply for?
OK, I think we got this one about repurposing. Parts of the essays.
I think we got most of the questions. How do we find someone?
Great, OK, so now I want to transition over to Jenna. I have a question for Jenna so um, with your background in music and then your experience as a coordinator, can you speak to the ways that you've received scholarships and your experience in the music program?
Sure, I'll try to do that and kind of simultaneously answer Avery's question there. So to answer your question, the marching band and Pep band there is scholarships for both of those. I'm in marching band so I get a scholarship for that and then usually this year we didn't have it just because of covid stuff, but usually will have a presidential pep band for the fall which goes to volleyball games, another school events, and then in the spring semester they'll be a basketball pep band and both of those have.
Separate scholarships that you can get.
Besides that, I don't know of any program specifically for music that give you scholarships other than ones that you apply for or get automatically like I have a scholarship for the music program right now because I had a like a high enough GPA and I'm sustaining that GPA and I'm in two ensembles every semester and that's how I get that scholarship. So there's a couple of different options. And if you go to that same website calls, been talking about, there's a list of other ones as well.
And I guess beyond music I've gotten scholarships through this program. I've gotten scholarships through fraternity and sorority life, so to be honest, a lot of my scholarships have come from being involved in different student organizations.
Jevon McKinney
02:33:34 PM
And are there any scholarships in liberal arts subjects that you're not majoring in but still interested in, like a music minor?
Reham Abdunabi
02:33:36 PM
When do we get merit scholarships?

02:33:41 PM

02:33:49 PM
Thank you!
Yeah, thank you so much. Cool. You are a wealth of knowledge and I feel like every single person here today has such a unique perspective and I'm excited to to be able to share more information with all of you. Your questions are awesome. The next thing I'm going to do is go to Katrina. Katrina is very involved on campus and Katrina. I would love for you to share how you found the extra funding or if there are any tips and tricks that you have from a student perspective.
To help our participants today.
Yeah, so I have a couple scholarships. One I was lucky enough to get through my County that I grew up in which was really nice and thankful. So always make sure you look for what your services well and how that can access you as well as your high school. There's certain opportunities that you can apply for as well and so I have one of those I also have.
Energize, which is the National Hispanic Institute with the Lorenzo de Lavala youth legislation and I got to spend a week here my junior summer and I got a scholarship for that and that has really helped. I also what really I mean. I think is the best thing you could do is also to apply for work study and get that as well, especially with your FASA. And depending on how much find, find it that you get. You can also get a certain amount of work study that goes to.
Not only your like tuition coverage, but everything I use it for room and board. I use it for other places as well because I college is not just solution, it's also everything and it can be very expensive. So just make sure to think about that. I did I made a budget plan with one of my.
Sisters and that really helped as well and it made me budget everything out. That was also not just tuition but everything, room and board. What I was planning on spending for groceries too and I think that can help you think about how this scholarship you should apply for as well and give you a good understanding of your experience at college. And really, I made me feel a lot more comfortable of how my life and I was. I was really worried about money, but after I did that with my advisor I was like.
OK, this is manageable. This is something I can do and I got some scholarships to cover for it so.
Thank you so much, Katrina um, so I have another question, um.
OK, so these ones just came in while Katrina was chatting.
Are there any scholarships in liberal arts subject that subjects that you are not, that you're not majoring in but still interested in like a music minor? So for this one I would recommend you attend our webinar later on this week that talks about majors and minors, so you understand that dynamic. But as far as scholarships go for this cool. Do you have any information about if someone is minoring in something? If there are scholarships available?
Reham Abdunabi
02:37:08 PM
How do you apply for work-study
Lia Ditslear
02:37:10 PM
Catrina when you say advisor, is that a financial advisor? Should we contact a financial advisor now
I also wanted to add I don't know if this applies to you specifically, but since we mentioned marching band and pep bands earlier, that's an organization where you can get a scholarship if you're in it and don't have to be a music major use. Anyone can join marching band pens and still get the scholarship, so if that applies to throw that out there.
Um, when do you get Merit Scholarship school?
Awesome in the next question. When will we hear from the University? Dion Lewis. I was accepted as a non resident but qualify for Willie. Do I need to fill out scholarship applications for any scholarships or deceased you award some appan admissions. We also did FAFSA.
Reham Abdunabi
02:38:34 PM
Do we write new essays each year
OK, this is for anybody. How do you apply for work study? So has anybody had that experience on our panel?
I have like for me it's through. I'm a resident assistant within the dorms and that doesn't provide full coverage, but it does provide full room and board, which means I just have tuition left to worry about and with additional scholarships that help a lot for applying, you can go to like there's a like. Colorado State has a career page and then on there it says on campus employment and from there you can find on campus job. There's also lots of jobs around CSU, the ones that.
Aren't on that page that are off campus. You would have to apply for on your own if you want to work and study at the same time, but anything else you can find through that basic CSU careers page. And then yeah, that's it.
Catrina Vininski
02:41:00 PM
Hi Lia I got an advisor through the scholarship I applied for and depending on the scholarship you will have advisor's to help you though the college process. Also you will get academic advisor through your major and they are also more than willing to help out as well!
Yeah, that's actually really important detail. I have a few siblings who have done work study and I had two siblings who were in the Financial Aid Office and they were actually offered jobs when they finished from their work study experience so it can open up doors for you.
For jobs after college, if you're interested in staying in higher Ed. So that's a really good question and a wonderful thing to pursue. If you see yourself staying in higher Ed. Katrina, this ones for you when you were talking about your advisor, were you speaking about your financial aid advisor? Should they contact the financial advisor now?
Yeah, so I tried to fill out as best as I could.
OK, great and then do we write new essays each year that one call? Correct me if I'm wrong, it just depends on the scholarship that you applied for in the program that you apply. For some, it's like a one and done. You're good for four years, some are every year that you have to renew them. It just depends.
Lia Ditslear
02:43:11 PM
Thank you!
Yeah, OK, now I have a question for an if we are missing any questions go ahead and type it again. If we've I've tried to cover everything but you will have all just been asking the best questions. I think that I've had it a webinar in awhile so this is really fun and so if we did skip your question, just type it again and will be happy to answer it. We also can set up as Cole said, one on one chats with you. You can do that with Cole.
Jenna Moore
02:43:51 PM
You will have to complete new essays for CSUSA each year too.

02:44:04 PM
For the WUE Freshmen eligibility it says you must demonstrate a 3.3 GPA, does this count your high school GPA or your freshman year in college?
Reham Abdunabi
02:44:05 PM
When do we recieve the merit scholarships
And then if you want to talk to and invest ambassador directly, you can set up a time with one of them. I hope you can't hear my fridge in the background is just refilling itself with water. OK, so let's go on to a question that I have for all of you. So if and this is for coal peat Jenna Katrina, if you had a friend or a younger brother or sister applying to CSU.
What would be like your kind of hidden gem? Kind of secret sauce for starting this whole process it can feel so overwhelming. So what would be like the first kind of baby steps that you'd recommend to some someone? Maybe it's younger brother, sister, friend, whatever cool, what would you say?
Yeah, and I would build off of that like in overarching umbrella. This is not just specific to the College of Liberal Arts. Do research on the Bettcher scholarship program. Do research on the Daniels Fund, do research on the Blake leadership Leadership Scholars Program. The Montford program. Also, these are all really well known programs and scholarships that will give you as you said, cool community to be successful.
In your time at CSU and they have different variations of. You know, maybe a mentor or they do workshops. Or you know depending on which one you qualify for it. But I'd highly recommend again better Daniels, Montford and Blake Leadership scholars program. Those are for really well known scholarship avenues in addition to the CS USA.
Let's go to Jenna. If you were giving advice to somebody who you really cared about coming into CS, you would be the secret sauce.
And for me I would say to probably get involved in something right away, whether it's like an intermural sport or a club and they have options for that.
Great, thank you Jenna Katrina how about for you?
Yeah, I'm definitely going to echo what Jenna said as somebody who works in the hub of involvement, I'm definitely fitting involved. It's something that really can just make your college experience better. Anworth wild. Definitely check out the Lory Student Center and definitely come in an you know there is over. I think 475 different clubs that we offer that you can definitely join and be apart of and check out everything that we have. I know the rec center definitely saved me when I was a freshman. I would go there all the time.
So definitely be open to new opportunities and just get involved.
Alright cool Are you ready for another question?
OK, for the WUI. Freshman eligibility. It says you must demonstrate a 3.3 does this, yes?
OK, and then when do you receive the Merit Scholarship? I think that we answered that one earlier. Did we answer that one cool?
Reham Abdunabi

What kind of civic engagement should we have?
Yeah, I would say the main thing to just like RE emphasizes apply for everything. I mean, if you're thinking about Blake Scholarship, go for the Honors Program too, because the Honors program gives a small scholarship on its own and then if you get another small scholarship and then like one or two outside of that, you have a lot of your tuition covered. Plus you get a green and gold scholarship appan getting admitted into CSU, which ranges from about $1000 to I think 3 or $4000 if you're in state. So I mean, it really adds up, it doesn't need to be a big scholarship where you get.
Everything covered you could aim for three or four small ones and then get most of it covered that way as well.
Avery Stafford
02:51:53 PM
Is there an office we can call in the future for help/advice?
Alright, so we're coming in on the last 10 minutes of this webinar, so to all our participants. If there's any question that's just been in the back of your mind and you're not sure if you should answer or ask it, go ahead and type it in the chat. I bet you other people have the same question, and while we're waiting to see if any other things pop up in the questions section, I would love for cold to be able to share about his Daniels Fund experience because we got really lucky on this webinar, we have feet.
Who has his Blake Leadership scholars program? We have. Cole has a background as a Daniels Fund scholar and then Jenna and Katrina have their own sets of scholarships and program involvement. So cool, can you speak to that a little bit?

thank you!
Thank you anything that we're missing so to our panel. Are there any things that you think are important to know that you that we've maybe missed, or things that you'd like to add?
I think we've covered a lot.
For me, I did the kind of traditional Boy Scouts. I was very involved with Scouts and I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, which means I did my own service project and I ran that within my troop and also meant I had to do it like over 20 hours of volunteering. So that's a great way to do it. It can be in a lot of different ways, though. You can get it through a church if you're really like devoted to a church. That's a great way to give back any like food, shelter, anything like that. What they want to see is like real devotion to it so.
I mean, choose something really, get invested in it, or and then that will look really good.
Alex Smilor
02:54:14 PM

02:54:22 PM
Thank you. This was very useful and informative.
Is there an office we can call in the future for help and advice? So Avery if you email me, I'm always happy to help anybody get connected with resources on campus and I can set up a one on one chat with you. Most of us are working remote and so the best way to get ahold of us is through email.
And then what kind of civic engagement should we have? Oh, this is such a good question. Um, key? You're smiling? What kind of civic engagement did you have when you came into CSU?
Yeah, that's that's good advice, um.
Jenna or Katrina? Do you have any?
Anybody who's coming in as far as civic engagement opportunities?

Great, thank you. I am not seeing any more questions. Right now we've got about 5 minutes. Um, I'm so glad that this has been informative for all of you. I did put my email in the chat. I'm going to put it cold in here again. I already put it in once. Cole is going to be able to answer specific scholarship questions and then I'll put mine in again. I'm going to be able to get you connected.
Um, with anybody on campus who you need to get connected with. So that's my job. My job books. I didn't put color stating right, so give me a second. Don't use that email. There we go.
But I can get you connected with ambassadors if you want to talk to them. I think this student experiences are really important.
Experience to connect with even virtually. And so Pete, Jenn, and Katrina are three of our awesome ambassadors. We do have a team of about 1920 ambassadors and then cool. Also supervises a group of students and they do a lot of great work on campus. And then if you need to talk to call, you can always go directly to him since he's been on this. And then if you want to talk to chairs I can get you connected with chairs faculty if you want to shadow a lecture I can help you.
Do that so even beyond scholarships, please contact me if you have any questions. We're really happy you were able to join us today.

Thank youuu
I always tell people that obviously we want you to choose CSU. I chose CSC for myself and Pete, Jenna, Katrina and Cole all chose it for themselves, but at the end of the day we want you to choose the best University for you. And so the way that you do that is by getting the most information so you can make the most informed decision for yourself.
