And R today is called why CSU for out of state students this week? And we're going to have a summer webinars series for different student populations and about different support services and programs at Colorado State. But this week is primarily designated for certain student populations, and so we wanted to host one for out of state students who are.

Hi from Hawaii.
I'm looking to come to Colorado State. Maybe you've already been admitted to Colorado State for the fall. Maybe you're a transfer student. Maybe you're a high school student. Sophomore junior. We're just glad that you joined us this afternoon, so the way the web and R will work for the next 45 minutes to an hour is we have a short PowerPoint presentation that will go over here in a couple minutes and then myself and my colleague tyko. We are regional representatives for Colorado State and we are going to.
Answer a few questions from the audience, and then we're going to have some of our current student admission ambassadors come on board who are current non resident out-of-state students at Colorado State, and they're going to answer questions that anyone in the audience might have today. So to start off.
Want to mention a couple? Another housekeeping tip is we do have closed captioning up in the upper right hand corner. If you need that, you should have that capability from your from the web and R that you're viewing on your screen and then so also yeah, so really quick. We're just going to do introductions with myself, inteco. So once again, my name is Justin's Molly. I'm the Northern California admissions representative for Colorado State University in Fort Collins, and I actually reside remotely in Northern California outside of Sacramento.
And help recruit students from Northern California and work with students during their transition to Colorado States and we have remote admissions counselors throughout the country to kind of help with that transition. Let's see I actually rejoined CSU as an employee last summer. I used to work at a University in California for a few years, and then before that I lived in Colorado for about 11 years and nine of those years I worked at Colorado State and I do have a Masters degree from CSU.
We have a strong affinity for the University and I'm glad to be back on board to assist students on their transition to a fantastic University like Colorado State Sotico, do you mind introducing yourself?
Yeah, sure, so I'm the regional representative for Texas and Oklahoma. Those are my two territories that I work with. I'm going to be based out of Austin, Texas. I've been here for now. Four years working for CSU. Absolutely loved it. Love it. I was originally born in New Jersey. I'd then move to Costa Rica with their child was 12 finish high school there and then I went to college back in the East Coast University of Delaware and then moved around a lot. I've lived in DC. I've lived in North Dakota for a little while. I lived in New York City for a little while.
And then decided it's time to get out of the cold and return to some warmer climate. And then I moved to Austin, TX and so here I am.
Cool, thanks to go so really quickly just wanted to start it with. Start the presentation with the brief power point presentation and T Co. If you have anything you want to chime in while I'm talking, please feel free to do so so the first slide here is why CSU for out of state students.
A First off, we what really draws a lot of students to Colorado State is the location were located in awesome Fort Collins, Co. This slide mentions a lot of great things about the University or I'm sorry about the town. Fort Collins right now is the 4th largest city in the state of Colorado. With a population of about 165 thousand people. So it really has a small town feel with all the big city amenities that you might be looking for in a place like Denver.
Denver is the biggest Metropolitan area in the state of Colorado and Fort Collins is located one hour directly North of Denver. So for Collins is in Northern Colorado, about 30 miles South of the Wyoming border and just off to the West of Fort Collins. You'll find the foothills of the Rocky Mountains so that is a big draw for a lot of our out of state students. So instead of going into a lot of specifics about the town and stuff, I wanted to just kind of pinpoint some adjectives that I think are very, really describe Fort Collins.
Really, into the quintessential college town, it has that small town flair. A lot of small businesses, a lot of innovation that will take place in the town of Fort Collins. Also, it's a very convenient place I mentioned. It has that small town appeal with all the big city amenities and really I think for Collins is a nice hidden gem of Colorado. It's kind of off the tourist path where a lot of people will fly into the Colorado and go up to the ski slopes off the Interstate 70 corridor, which is like directly West of Denver.
So since we're a little bit further North, um, we might not get as much of the traffic flow during the winter time. But still for Collins, it's a great tourist area, but still, it maintains that flavor where it's just a very nurturing and friendly environment. Overall, let's see, yeah, so also for Collins, really is an outdoor recreational Mecca. Alot of our out of state students will choose for Collins because of the outdoor recreation opportunities.
Rocky Mountain National Park is about an hour away. We have excellent opportunities for whitewater rafting. Any type of snow, sports, snowing, skyboarding, camping, hiking, you name it will definitely definitely have that he go to join to mention anything about focal.
Just a really cool place. I mean it's I spent a lot of time trying to describe it, but my main thing is you know when you get a chance, just come up and visit it. I think it really speaks for itself.
You have the natural resources part in being able to be outside and really kind of explore nature, but then you also have a really cool downtown area in Old Town which is walking distance from our main campus. So you really get the best of both worlds. It's just a really cool place to four years or more kind of living and learning.
Cool thanks bigger. So next step. Wanted to talk a little bit about the academics so I'm not going to go into a lot of specifics about the academics because we want to make sure we get your questions answered today. But overall a Colorado State we're going to have numerous opportunities and really one of the things is admissions counselor that I will try to tell students as you want to find the school or find a school that has the academic program that you're looking for. Colorado State has countless opportunities for academic programs.
But also it does provide an environment for students that might be undecided or students that are unsure of their major and we have excellent resources on campus that can help you find that specific academic program that might pertain to your interest in your skills. So that's one thing that you'll find. It is strong research University of Colorado state another component is we are a research University so and also is the land grant University for the state of Colorado. We really specialize on hands-on applied learning.
Within all of our academic programs, whether it's in the liberal arts or business or the stem disciplines, probably out there. If you've done some research, you might know of some of the programs that were really known for our veterinary medicine program or College in natural resources in the state of Colorado. We really specialized in the life and Animal Sciences are stem disciplines are very strong, including engineering. We have strong business Luber Arts Performing Arts, some unique programs like interior design, construction management.
Uh so, but overall you'll find that applied hands-on learning it at Colorado State and then another thing I wanted to note on this slide is we're probably the most sustainable green University out there. Is part of that ties into the environment that were added it within the state of Colorado, where Environmental Conservation is is a big initiative among most of the people that live in the state and the University has really.
Taking that sustainable endeavour into into place over the last 20 years, and we've been recognized for that. So within a lot of our academic programs, if not all of them, You'll find some component of environmental sustainability and conservation. And that's something that is really put us on the map. So moving on to this next slide, another thing that's really important.
Among our student population at Colorado State is that we want our students to learn as much outside the classroom as you will inside the classroom at Colorado State. Our faculty staff. It's a very nurturing environment where we are there to really support our students to find their own path. But also, we want our students to learn as much outside the classroom. Whether it's in our 500 plus student organizations or the performing arts or study abroad or athletics, so this slide kind of mentions a lot of those different components.
And I think what you'll find among our student body. The one thing that I that I like a lot is our students are very well balanced. They work hard inside the classroom, but they like to have fun outside the classroom. Whether it's with the outdoor adventure program or maybe athletics or performing arts. But a ton of opportunities to really find that balance that will help you with the next steps after you leave.
He got his winner mention anything about.
No, I think the thing that you mentioned is really good about being balanced. So working remotely, we don't always interact with the current students as much, but one of the things that we do get to do is some of the ambassadors or select you will come and visit in our territories and help present, and so we do get to know those students pretty well. And it's just fun to see how many different things they're involved in besides their academics and all the different tangents that their lives can go into. One of our former ambassadors last year he did.
An internship in DC and then he was also really involved with the Christian group on campus called the navigators. Just really doing really good stuff and supporting the whole community. So I think balances is a really great word to describe the CSU student.
All right, uhm? Finally kind of wrapping up. The short PowerPoint is another component that I think is your searching for colleges these days to consider is obviously affordability financial. Fitz and the value of the degree that you'll be receiving from the University that you're attending. So kind of rap up the PowerPoint. Wanted to highlight some of the components of the CSU degree. An really to kind of pinpoint this website on this slide which is proud to be.colostate.edu.
It goes more into depth about the value of a Colorado State education. I'm especially as a nonresident student, you, uh. I mean, there's a lot of a lot of Tangibles, intangibles that you have to think about when making that college decision, and so the one one statistic on here that I really like to promote is 88% of CSU graduates would decide on CSU again, if they were going through the process all over again. Also, on this slide you'll find that.
A lot of our graduates are finding a lot of different unique employers out there all over the place all over the world all over the country. I'm a lot of it might depend on what type of organization you might want to work for. Is It a Fortune 500 company or a small business or do you want to start your own business? Or maybe you want to do more things on the nonprofit side, we're going to have students that will go into all different types of areas and the starting average salary is on here as well from like the past three years and stuff. So overall, I just think.
I mean my own take as an alarm and things. I think the value of the CSU degree is definitely worth it. I know each individual situation is important on financial fit and affordability, but maybe probably even more so for out of state students of things. But each decisions personal and for the webinar today we might not get into a lot of this specific questions and things will try to answer more general questions and things. But if you do have any specific questions, please reach out to your individual admissions.
Counselor and I'll put URL links and stuff in the chat box that we move forward. If you need more individual counseling and things like that, the one great thing about the CSU community is there's we're here to help you and the overall. Like I said that nursing or environment, I think you'll really find that at Colorado State anything you wanted to add take over.
Just that last point, we're here to help you and we see so many people here right now on the web and are with us from all different States and each have a counselor, so be sure to go to our website and find your counselor for your specific state as you're exploring going out of state to really get to know all the ends and outs in all the details and send us an email. Whoever is your counselor mean and if you don't know, just reach out to us soon. Will let you know here counselor is.
But just communicate with us and we're happy to help you navigate the whole college search process to move forward.

Find your counselor here: https://admissions.colostate.edu/find-your-counselor/
Very cool and yeah, just uh. I mean, we want each individual student to really find their own state at Colorado State University. So we have great academics in place. Great support services. We want students to find their own path and that website that I mentioned really even highlights a lot of alumni and what they're doing. Their own individual pathways and career initiatives and things like that. So next step briefly, we wanted to answer. I kind of wanted to start out with.
A question for Chico, uh, what are some reasons why students from your area choose Colorado State? Do you mind addressing that question a little bit ago?
Yeah, for sure so specifically from Texas. It's not that far right location wise. Coming from Texas to Colorado isn't that big of a jump for the most part, so it's not that unfamiliar so a lot of Texans are familiar with Colorado and they've gone up there for vacations with their families throughout their lives. And for some reason or another they fall in love with it. It's really easy to do. The mountains are beautiful, people are great. I said I think one is going to be. Location is also very different from Texas and I love living in Texas. and I love Austin, TX.
But it's also cool to kind of see a different environment and see a different geography and how that effects its people, and so that's really fun to change it up. and I think it's a great opportunity right after high school to be able to do that, at least at some point. Get a chance to just live in a different environment than perhaps you were raised in. So location is going to be one. It's not that Miller. And then, when you actually come visit us in Fort Collins, Co and take a tour of campus and meet some of the other members of community, you realize how friendly everyone is and that means.
Is something that it's hard to describe but you gotta feeling that when you're there people want to make sure that you're OK and you feel part of something bigger than yourself in this is what makes what really I guess engages people and there's something special that we have up there?
The other things I think it's going to be popular from areas are going to be specific academic. So for instance our vet program or that program is number 3 in the country, so a lot of students from Texas full be familiar with that because they want to be a veterinarian or interested in specific tracks about how to be the most successful when they do go to that school or environment. Environmental awareness and sustainability is another area that a lot of students they find us. You know they're interested in dealing with natural resources, and then they come to us specifically for specific program.
So those are kind of the three I think main reasons, our location, the function, maybe specific academic that makes so nice from going to Texas.
Great thanks to go, I guess really quick, just answer my own question. A lot of students from Northern California. what I find a lot of students that do like to ski and snowboard, especially like up in the Tahoe area and stuff where the California ski snowboard resorts are located. A lot of students that might do that even while they're in high school and things like that or just like the outdoors in general. Whether it's in the Redwood Forest or here in Northern California, a lot of those students will definitely be drawn to.
Going to school in Colorado and also the other component I was going to mention is so the they also they want to have a different weather climate so the cold is definitely something for which students that I work with in California. They if they if they don't mind the cold and things like that and they want to experience Four Seasons, you can definitely get that in Colorado. So especially where I'm located from the climate is.
Is warmer, I live in the Central Valley. It's pretty hot in the summer and things like that, but in Colorado you will have four distinct seasons. The weather, the winter time might be a little bit longer as far as snow, sometimes it gets to in Fort Collins all the way up until April, maybe even early pay. The average snowfall might be about 50 to 60 inches of year. Also, we do get we do get a lot of sun though. Over 300 days of sunshine a year, so the snow melts pretty quickly. A lot of a lot different snow.
Uh, then you might find in the Midwest and things and so definitely the weather is something that can draw students to Colorado. Also, it might keep students from Colorado so so that's one thing, yeah, I'd like to maybe mentioned, so we have questions already rolling in, which is awesome so.
Yeah, one of the early questions just so everyone knows that they are asking if this is going to be recorded in you have access to this later and you will so just by signing up an assumption little heads up for some webinars but they couldn't attend it, but you're going to get a copy of it as well, so don't worry, you won't miss anything there. Go ahead, Justin.

Do you have your own application or on Common App? Any supplemental essays?
Matthew Winner
02:20:41 PM
What are WUE requirements? As a junior now, I have had all my SAT tests cancelled? Recommendations? From Cali here.
Yeah, thanks so I am going to try to prove through some of these questions and have tea Cohen I answer them before we bring the students on. And yeah, so I know one question that came in is we accept the common application or how can you apply to Colorado State demon answering that decode.
Matthew Winner
02:21:04 PM
Do you have early decision?
Yeah, so um for this. Next we're going to be exclusively using the common application will still have our own individual on available if you need it, but we're moving more to just using the common application and so that will be open August 1st. You can begin applying and then everything you need to apply is going to be on our website and then again any questions. Make sure you reach out to your counselors.
Titus Paynter-Tavares
02:21:14 PM
I am applying for the 2021 fall semester. Are you guys waiving the SAT requirement like many other school are doing now because of corona virus
Great yeah, so some questions about the application that might be more suited for us. Kind of throwing some of those into the chat. Yeah there was a question about early decision as far as our typical admissions deadlines, December 1st is our early action deadline. I mean, it's not really a traditional early decision deadline. It's early action where if you apply by that date you'll get a response back. Even really, really quick however. However, our regular missions date is February 1st.
We are unrolling emissions at Colorado State, so the sooner you apply, the sooner you get a word back and we make this. We make decisions within about two to four weeks of the time that students apply. Our application will open up for students for fall of 2021 on August 1st and also there was also a question about wowie. I saw in there and are scholarships. We do have quite a few out of state scholarships and really all those can be found on our financial aid website. The criteria.
And those will be based on GPA standardized test. If there are any changes for those of you that might be high school seniors next year, we will update our scholarship criteria each fall, so those can change from year to year. There was also a question about we. I mean we realized the Cove in pandemic is going on and affecting a lot. We are still currently going to be requiring standardized tests for students entering for fall of 2021.
Kim King
02:23:08 PM
Financial Aid Scholarships for Out-of-State Students https://financialaid.colostate.edu/scholarships-for-entering-non-resident-freshman/
I thought that was a question. Um, primarily because we've heard that there should be ample time to still take one of those standardized tests. SATRACT. However, if the pandemic does continue, I'm sure there possibly could be changes on that, but we will definitely notify our students our perspective. Students about any changes in mission application materials, Chico anything you wanted to add what I mentioned.
Chloe Seeborg
02:23:21 PM
What are the scholarship opportunities for out of state students?
Emma Worrell
02:23:28 PM
What are the ways to make CSU more affordable for out of state students?
No, so any updates for that when you go to our admissions website at the top, there's going to be a link for kovid, so anything pertaining to perspective students we tried to answer a lot of those questions already. So any type of changes that are going to happen will also be posted. There will just kind of just keep checking there to make sure everything is still up to date.
let's see. So yeah and so so yeah, there's there's definitely some questions or there's a lot of questions about the student life. I'm going to save those for our student ambassadors and also.
Katie Rubio
02:23:54 PM
What is the average cost for out of state students, and how often is finacial aid given for students?
I don't know if you saw any of these questions to tiko that you wanted to answer really quick.
Kim King
02:24:03 PM
Average cost can be found here! https://financialaid.colostate.edu/cost-of-attendance/
But definitely reach out to your missions counselor if you're having any trouble reach getting ahold of someone. I mean, you can always contact our general admissions email that admissions at colostate.edu, and we also have a lot of opportunities right now for one on one virtual chat Switcher. I think really nice. Personally, I'm a big fan of those, and yeah, so a lot of a lot of resources to hopefully get your questions answered and things. And we do have a lot of offices that are working remotely now, so.
Other offices are trying to get back to students really as quickly as they can, whether it's housing in your financial aid and due to the Cove at pandemic, they have definitely see seen an increase in traffic, and so we're definitely doing this. We can see, yeah?
There's a few questions here about scholarship, so do we want to kind of touch a little bit more details and you can go over kind of Lewis and and I'll go over just the out of state scholarships.
I'm sorry, did you want to go first or did you want me?
Oh, I'm going to let you go first.
Julia Ghiselli
02:25:14 PM
You mentioned sustainability, are there daily vegan options in the dining hall?
Oh cool, yeah, so uh, yeah, the scholarships themselves we have admissions based scholarships and those are going to be based on the way they currently stand for this academic year. And more than likely we will update any news merit scholarships for next school year in the fall because those can change your year. They are based on GPA. We will take weighted GPA's from high school and also standardized test scores 80.
Or a see T and we do do super score if you take an exam more than once and it will have scholarships. Nonresident scholarships that range from 5000 all the way up to about $10,000. We are apart of the western undergraduate exchange program for California residents and other residents of the western half of the US. It is more of a merit award at Colorado State, once again, based on GPA and test scores. It's a sliding scale and that specific criteria can be found on the website financially.
Kim King
02:26:19 PM
YES! We have different options for common dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, vegan, & gluten free
I fell asleep. I need you. We also have separate scholarships for major or Department of scholarships through the CSU scholarship application that's due by March 1st of each school year, and those scholarships can be available for incoming students and also students also returning or current students.
And if there are any transfer students outside transfer scholarship, some quite a few even have transferred movie. If we have any two year college students out there today. So so yeah, anything else?
Yeah, just for my Texas students Oklahoma. Unfortunately we're not apart of Louis, so the scale is a little bit different. It is convenient that scale is available on our financial aid website so you can see specifically scholarships for out-of-state students that aren't aren't part of Lewis and it's a sliding scale based on your GPA or weighted GPA and you're super score. The AC T or S80.
Kim King
02:27:26 PM
We have an online menu for all our dining halls that provide common allergen & dietary restriction labels for the dishes they're serving that day
And so you know, I tell my Texan, students at that really does make a difference in terms of scholarship money right now until things change, if they change. But for now, paying attention to that, and especially when I get in front of 9th graders and I tell them, You know, you're probably not thinking about standardized test scores right now. But if you are considering going out of state, it can make a big difference in making that be affordable for you down the road. So doing that early test preparation to give you that higher score and doing well in your classes to have a high GPA gives you the best possible chance of earning a scholarship for.
Sam Shulman
02:28:10 PM
Is there a university branded bus or shuttle to take students to the rockies or denver airport? Or are we required to make do with our own travel?
Making an out of State School becoming more of reality for you, so keep that in mind. Justin already mentioned kind of our internal scholarships and know that you know, once you've been admitted and that's why it's sometimes easier to get everything done sooner rather than later so you have time to then focus on applying for additional solutions, whether that be our scholarship form, which is the CSU, a or outside friendships in your own community as well. So it gives time in your senior year to try and other ships to make it more affordable. Besides that big advantage up, the faster.
Jade Collins
02:28:14 PM
How many clubs does the average student join?
Keegan Dunnington
02:28:16 PM
Do you need a car to get to skiing, Denver, airport, RMNP? Is there any transportation available?
I need based aid that you can get a will also capital be available. So completing those forms out as well.
Sam Lopez
02:28:19 PM
Where do you go if you Study Abroad or what about Internships? Can you do study abroad and internships at the same time?
Sure, I can stay on which, whichever, whichever you, yeah.
Cool, so I would definitely like to make the transition now for the student ambassadors to come on board. And um, tiko if you want to stay on your more than welcome to or maybe even use some help facilitating some of these questions if you have the time. Yeah yeah yeah.
But yes, our student ambassadors were going to come on board here and so they are out there hearing me in the virtual world. So it might just take him a manager to come on board. And then we're going to have them introduce themselves and things and then we'll get started. So we definitely looks like we have a lot of questions coming in about student life and things like that. So we are going to try to answer as many of those as we can. And I've already started approve sending some of those questions over into the chat.
Um, if I've missed something, uh, the student ambassadors. I think you all have access to these questions too. If I miss something. Tiko. If I miss something please all of us on board will just try to get as many questions answered as we can and I'll take it from there. So First off though, we want to do introductions with our student ambassadors that are on board. So Natalie. How 'bout you start us?
Yeah hi everyone. My name is Natalie Jenkins. I am a current senior at CSU and I'm from Northern California, Walnut Creek. I saw a lot of California and Bay Area people on the chat. So hello to everyone at CSU. I'm a communication studies major, an liberal arts. I have two majors.
And I've been involved in a couple of different organizations, including fraternity and sorority life. I helped start a club that put on a summer camp for kids I got to have an internship through the College of liberal arts and I have a student job on campus through the office of admissions.
Yeah, go ahead tell yeah.
Thanks again, Yeah Colin.
Everyone, my name is Colin. I'm a second year student studying chemical and biological engineering and if you know anything about flags, know that I'm from Texas. Amber, Texas there. Yeah, I'm. I'm from Grapevine TX, which is kind of near Dallas. Outside of that right there, I'm also involved in University Honors Program. I'm actually a officer in the Honor Student Association. I'm also involved in Tau Beta Pi, which is like an engineering Honor Society and a few other kind of things like that. I'm also a huge chemistry notes. I've been to Kim club meetings and things like that before as well.
All right, how do you know my name is Zoe? I'm from Carlsbad, CA. So really, southern uh, let's see I am a botany major here at CSU. I'm in my second year finishing up this week. We have finals. Hope everyone's doing well on that this. Let's see I was involved in a couple of things while we were still on campus, the first one being our oldest club, which is the entomology club and then also fermentation science club and.
Plants IDs, so I'm really into everything that grows. I was also on our inner tube water polo team, which was super fun and it really awkward the watch, but it was the best thing ever. And this summer I have an internship that I actually was connected with through the CSU Career Center. So I am currently a park Ranger for our Larimer County this summer. So yeah, that's a little bit about me.
So, uh, I guess we'll just get started on some of these questions. It seems like there's a number of questions about transportation, even from the airport up to Fort Collins or Fort Collins in general, or even transportation up to the mountains for skiing and stuff like that, and maybe a couple of you all addressed that.
Kevin Buck
02:33:08 PM
How does housing work for out of state students? Do most out of state students stay on campus as upperclassmen? How are roommates matched if you live on campus?
Yeah, so in terms of getting to and from the airport, I've made it 3 out of my four years without having a car. I'll start by saying so. It's definitely easy to get around and find transportation or ways to get places. We have a really great service that's not through CSU, but a lot of CSU students use it and it's called Groome transportation and the cost is about $25 to get to the airport and then $25 get from the airport, but the shuttle actually picks up right at our CSU transit center.

If online is necessary, what will that mean for out of state students?
On campus and takes you directly to the airport. So a lot of students do use that service and then in terms of getting around campus an around Fort Collins in general we have a couple services that are accessible with our student ID card and the fee for that is included in our student fees so we don't have to pay in the moment to use this bus. But we have routes that go around campus on campus to off campus to help you get to campus and as well as into our downtown area.
Which is called Old Town.

Yeah, so um, let's see I know that we have our it's kind of like a fair like a uh, a club fair that we have at the beginning of the school year where all our clubs come out and they have a table. And that's how I got connected with our entomology club. We have probably about 25 students that show up regularly to there, but for our events we have probably like 10 people I know I'm not exactly sure the statistics of how many people are involved or like with the average student is involved in in the.

But yeah, that's just my experience. R plant ID club does a lot of cool things where they go out and you can just walk around campus and we kind of talk together about like what each plant is and like there. Just the things that they do to grow and survive. So it's a really great way to make those connections as well. As you know, if you want to go into the Rocky Mountain National Park, which is probably about an hour and a half for 45 minutes from CSU, you can get connected with those people that you made friends with.
In your clubs and you know if anyone has a car head up there for the weekend.

Yes, of course. This career fairs in like an upgrade, but just affairs in general. They talked about clubs, for example. Those are going to happen a lot. First when you first get to campus. But aside from that as well, but will also happen in the middle of campus. And it's not super uncommon be walking across campus really and see different clubs and organizations stabling outside of some of the most popular building saying like hey come join our clubs and that's really great way to make sure you're getting involved. Hand out Flyers and things like that. I mean, it seriously happens all the time, especially on the nice days, but sometimes even in the cold or any kind of gloomier days for sure. So even if you can't make it once, for example generally should if you can involve a just walking around campus and will probably something to do with love. And so maybe that will.

Yeah, I saw it in the chapter. Also a lot of questions about the dining halls and meal plans, so we actually help 5 dining halls that are scattered throughout campus. And every student who lives on campus has a meal card. So what you get to do is swipe your ID card and you can stay in the dining Hall for as long as you'd like. I also saw questions about vegan options. They definitely work really hard to accommodate any dietary restrictions you know. Every dining Hall will have salad bars.

Kim - being from Va, do you find cheap flights from Richmond?
Pizza, good breakfast options, even like ice cream and things like that. Um, Kim talked about one of her favorite memories of being on the engineering floor an I think one of my favorite memories was getting to go and do group dinners and group meals in the dining halls with all my new friends in terms of my friend group, we were about half in state in half out of state so it wasn't like I was the only out of state person on my floor and we'd go and hang out and do group dinners in the dining halls and little things like that where you really try to?
Connect yourself with people, even not meals and things like that are good ways to sort of make CSU feel like a homemade Colorado. Feel like a home.
Could you are mine or maybe addressing us awesome? Some questions about living off campus, maybe the affordability of that and the opportunities live off campus. Or do most the most software junior seniors live off campus. Things like that. Colin, do you want starting?
Kim King
02:41:51 PM
I usually fly United because there is always a direct flight Denver to Richmond. My best suggestion is to book early!
You can touch on that and so for the first part. Yes, most I'm software students do tend to move off campus. They didn't move department for example, and the reason behind that is. There's lots of different housing options available here, so you can decide to move further further off campus or closer to campus or anything like that. I'm kind of going to plug where I live currently. I actually live in Aggie Village, which happens to be run through the University still is one of the things I think every student should at least take a look at because the benefits behind. It is that you're already through Carter State University Housing and dining program at that point.
And So what happened with that? You'd be able to apply through them super super short application.

You're already going through like Yardley campus such intend to help that. I'm thinking about it, is that you can really close to campus. I'm right across the street in some of my classes, so it's 85 minutes to walk like this class maybe.
Oh yeah, options for example for New Jersey and there are definitely.

Colin Hill
02:44:31 PM
With the honors program you can expect smaller class sizes so you have more personal interactions with your professors. You can also take some really interesting classes such as the US Mafia in the 20th century!
Beginning experience, so I actually came in undeclared, so my whole first year I was really taking different classes that I found interesting, not necessarily following a certain path, but I knew I was sort of interested in liberal arts and music and Spanish language and things like that. So that's sort of where I centered my studies around and it actually help me create a really positive first year experience where I was taking classes that I liked and I really connected with in terms of your bigger.
100 level or freshman year level classes. Almost every class will have between one and three graduate student teaching assistants. So in terms of in class support or getting support outside of class, you definitely have multiple people who can go to to ask questions or to get to know them, or to ask for help on a paper or an assignment, and then with that there's also always going to be a professor who is teaching the class or who is advising the class.
Ellesse Goodman
02:45:22 PM
CSU Academic Programs: https://admissions.colostate.edu/academic-programs/
Um, especially as I've kind of gone into smaller classes that are really set on communications, I've developed positive relationships with my teachers and sometimes when I'm signing up for classes in the fall, I'll take classes just because it's the teacher who is teaching it, and I've really enjoyed them, so I think, especially as you continue in a program, whether it's a major or a minor, you'll definitely start to feel connected to your Department, whether it's enjoying the classes or getting to know the other students in the class is.
Or if it's that you really do feel connected and like a connection to the professor themselves.
Just the kind of right I have a question. I want to ask you.
Skylar Hayward
02:46:01 PM
If you're in a sorority or fraternity is it required that you live in the house one or more years?

Yeah, I can go first here. Whenever Chico spoke earlier he actually kind of hit the nail on the head for me. So I'm the biggest things about it. When I was younger I think few vacations up here to Colorado and I fell in love with it such as, you know the mountains 'cause where I'm from, they really don't exist. The closest mountains tend to still be the Rocky Mountains for me throughout my trips up here. I decided that I really enjoyed this place and I remember having fond memories, so the mountains were the reason that I decided to come up here.

Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life: https://fsl.colostate.edu/
Yeah, I think kind of what Kim said. I in looking out of state I wanted a place I could feel comfortable and know that I'd be able to build a life for myself here. So I actually knew from early on that I did not want to stay in California. I was looking for adventure and something new and that's definitely what I found. I actually came for specific program so I was a music student and for me it was really important. Being able to be in jazz band and kind of have that music community and I think that's what helped set me up for success with.
Finding other sources of involvement on campus, and I remember so vividly on my campus tour, uhm, they talked about involvement in what Kim said with Rams, take care of Rams, and they felt like if I push myself with coming to CSU an out of state in general then I would be successful here because of all the opportunities.

Education Abroad: https://international.colostate.edu/educationabroad/
With one of the things I mentioned I was in fraternity and sorority life, and I think that has definitely helped me with finding connection to CSU, especially being out of state. Ann's Kim said not being able to go home on the weekends and sort of having to pick and choose when I am seeing my family and things like that. So I saw a lot of people in the chat were asking about fraternity and sorority life. I'd say it's definitely a positive thing that has helped me feel connected to Fort Collins as a whole.
Take my advice with being out of state is just to, you know, be willing to take a chance and push yourself a little bit. And of course it's going to be hard at first with adjusting to not only call it the transition from high school to college, but the transition of being able to take care of yourself and live in a new place. But I wouldn't change my experience for anything.
There were questions on a study abroad, so if any of you studied abroad, maybe want to touch on that a little bit at CSU.
Ellesse Goodman

Semester at Sea: https://catalog.colostate.edu/general-catalog/interdisciplinary-opportunities/semester-at-sea/
Yeah, I studied abroad this past summer. So at CSU we have programs for every major on any continent for any duration of time. So if you don't want to leave campus for a whole semester, you could study abroad during the summer or during part of winter break. So I actually went with the communications Department at Csco and we went to Rome, Italy this past summer, so I was there. I didn't have to miss a semester on campus, but we were there for six weeks.

When moving to CO for freshman year, how did you and your families move everything? I'm on the East Coast so it's quite far- would you recommend driving my things down, or flying and buying everything new once I'm actually at CSU?
And it was really special because I got to go with CSC students an with two of our CSC professors and it was also.
Kim King
02:53:35 PM
Also from East Coast! I've done the drive from VA & it took me 3 days! It's up to you whether you'd like to make that trek or not but a lot of big stores have options to shop for dorm essentials at your local store & they will put aside your items to pick up in a store in Fort Collins.
Um, learning content in courses for my Department. So it's definitely really special. How connected it was to CSU. We did classes during the day and then we would kind of do group travel in, you know, visits and things like that during the weekend. So it was definitely a really well structured and thought out program and some students will choose to do things like that that are through their programmer Department and then other students will go out and find other opportunities that are abroad in figure out ways to connect them back to their CSU.

Would you recommend bringing cars to campus?
OK, I'll again. So yeah, one of these things for sure is definitely not going to be able to see your family. So my whole family is based out of Texas and that means that I would see in all the time whenever I was back home. But then moving to Fort Collins, for example, presented a challenge in the sense that I didn't get to see them nearly as often. For some people, that may be a good thing, but something that may be a bad thing for me. I wish I was able to see the little bit more like my dogs. For example, if you have pets, leaving your pants is probably going to be harder than you imagine it would be so.

Uhm, you know, studying abroad their sophomore year when you haven't decided if you wanna do that yet or you see the schools doing really fun like pep rallies or something like that. Um, I challenge you to seek out ways that you can also bring that kind of spirit to your own experience. Whether you're at CSU or not, and just know that everyone has those really fun, exciting times at college. At different times, you know whether it's your freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year and just remember that everyone struggles.
Throughout college, whether it's with classes or a Zoe, talked about homesickness and people. Don't post about the hard things, so remember that everyone is going to have their own college experience and not to let yourself compare your own to what your friends are doing.
