Hi! Welcome to CLA'S "Exploring Northern Colorado through the Arts!
Alright, for those of you just joining us, go ahead and type into the chat what year you are in high school in what you are interested in studying at CSU.

Go ahead and type into the chat what year you are in high school and what you are interested in studying at CSU!
Alright, while you're typing that into the chat, we're going to get started here and I'm going to share a few slides with you and then give you an opportunity to jump on a one on one chat at the end, and that will be with the zoom link, and I will put that in the chat at the end of this presentation. So a few things for you to know.
My name is Jessica Rencher and I'm not only the recruitment coordinator for the College of liberal arts, but I'm also a grad student, so I'm working on my doctorate here at CSU and I'm studying human resources in education. I've loved my experience here, an I like being able to see CSU through through the perspective of a student lens and then also from an employee standpoint. We have a lot of ways for you to connect with us in a virtual way, so.
We have these webinars that we run in the mornings. We have a general web and R that gives you an overview of the college an, what it has to offer and then in the afternoon will have a specialized webinars. So today are focuses on the arts in Northern Colorado. Sometimes we will have a webinar on environmental studies in the College of liberal arts and then two new ones will launch in October are going to be.
Scholarships available within the College of liberal arts specific to see Ella and then. Also we're going to be launching web and R on studying abroad in the opportunities that are there so you can connect with webinars or one on one appointments. The one on one appointments are using the zoom platform. We of course can jump on a phone call or you know any other way to connect with you. Whatever is easiest, but those are usually through zoom.
And I always have a student ambassador who participates, and so this is an opportunity for you to talk to a student who goes to college here. And to me that is the most impactful conversation you can have. I have a lot of information for you about logistics and deadlines and what we have to offer, but there's nothing better than talking with this current student. For those of you who are just jumping in now, you can see in the chat section you can type in.
What you're interested in studying in what year you are in high school and then at the end of this I mentioned earlier that we will have an opportunity to jump on a one on one chat using zoom, so I'll put that link on the chat at the very end.
Another way you can connect is through admissions events. We have some coming up, there's discover, explore and choose. Discover is put on by admissions and it has all of our campus partners, so all of the 8 colleges at CSC will be there. CLA is one of those eight colleges and then we'll also have other campus resources available there. So keep an eye out for admissions events and then you can of course always send me an email at jessica.rancher@colostate.edu.
So one of the things you should know about is that even though Covid has impacted our experience on campus, we do still have some really creative fun things that we're doing. So the University center of the arts. That's called the UCA and you can see it in the background of this picture. It's near this flower garden that we have at CSU and currently they're doing vocal and musical instruction, theater and dance.
In the gardens. And so this is for some or most music students, but we're also opening it up to students who would like to be involved in some way. So an example would be my younger sister. She's a freshman at CSU in she's in Health and Human Sciences. That's another college here. But she plays the flute, and so she really wants to be involved in. So she signed up to go to the flower garden session this morning and just connect with the music.
Department it's a fun and different kind of experience that you can have, and it's been.
It was created specifically during this kovid time, so the classes are outside.
Another amazing opportunity on campuses museums in gallery's we have a couple that you can go see, so there's the alekar Gregory Alan Car Museum of Art and you can go ahead and go there and tour it and see what there is to see. There's some really wonderful resources there, and if you enjoy it then you can always volunteer. They have some really great programs.
Were they partner with local schools and they bring the arts to the schools?
Another opportunity is the Visual Arts Building Gallery's the Curfman Gallery and then the Museum of Art in Fort Collins. And so these are all things that are open right now. And of course they follow the state and local health regulations because we're trying to keep everybody one healthy during this time. But there's some really neat things to still participate in. Stay connected with the arts community.
Are there any questions about those two options?
Go ahead and type in the chat if you have any OK moving on to some of the performances so there are venues and theaters that you can go in. Attend there's one called the gardens on Spring Creek. We have an amphitheater that's opened up.
There's a holiday twin drive in theater, so one of the students are student ambassadors with the College of liberal arts told me that this weekend she got to go in here local ensemble and then in the evening after that they had the movie pitch perfect play at the drive-in theater. She said it was awesome and it was a great way to stay connected to the arts in kind of an innovative, fun way so the holiday twin drive in theater is one way that you can.
Maybe here performance and then have it followed up by a fun movie in. Usually they'll try to link the two SOA performance with something that's music based or performance performance based after the Lyric Cinema Cafe is open as well as the Lincoln Center.
So another thing that you might want to know about is the community arts organizations and this is what the Fort Collins Symphony and they have started performing. They're social distancing within their performances, so they're spaced 6 feet apart and some of their performances have been hosted outside, and that's just again to keep everybody healthy but still bring the arts to people. So that's through the Bohemian Foundation and the music district.
Alright, so go ahead and type in the chat any of your questions specifically related to the arts in Fort Collins. Maybe there is something specific that you're bringing to to the conversation. Maybe you have specific questions about what you want to study and how you could still be involved in the arts, but there's definitely a lot of opportunities for you to still get involved even amidst covid, so I'm going to type a few questions for you.
For you to answer, so here's my first question.
Jessica Rencher
03:10:28 PM

It looks like we have people from Arkane saw in Florida here today, so people from all over the US.
Sidney Newbold
03:11:16 PM

Sidney Newbold
03:11:23 PM

Senior High School Senior and you want to study communications and then.
You're feeling excited, awesome.

Laura is thinking about that. I have another question.
Jessica Rencher
03:12:06 PM
What are you most interested in learning about in your college search?

Sidney Newbold
03:13:07 PM
C
See OK scholarships great, so I'll leave that into this web and R as well just so you can have some information about it. Sydney and we can also jump on the zoom call after this presentation and I can answer some of your questions more specifically.
OK, another question I have for you.
Jessica Rencher
03:13:41 PM
What scholarships do you already know about?
What scholarships do you already know about? So what do you know about funding for the College of liberal arts? It could be nothing.
Sidney Newbold
03:13:54 PM
A as well
Sidney said OK as well, so academics great.
Sidney Newbold
03:14:04 PM
nothing
OK, nothing good answers so will have some information for you. So this is an addition to the opportunities of the arts in Fort Collins. And of course during non covid times. There are so many other things in the one site showed you today or the things that they're doing and they've been able to do an healthy way so will add to this.
By talking about scholarships, since that's something that's interesting to you, Sydney. So we have a scholarship leadership program. It's called the Blake Scholars Leadership program, and it's more than a scholarship. It's an actual program that you'll experience as a student in the College of liberal arts. There's some criteria, so you must be in the College of liberal arts or applied to a degree within the College of liberal arts you must earn.
A 4.0 GPA in your undergrad and then they're looking for you to be part of the honors program at CSU, so you would apply to the honors program and the honors program would have additional classes and seminars that you could take, and you can also live in the honors dorms, and so the Blake Scholars Leadership program would support you with almost like a mentor or cohort, so you would have.
Professor assigned to work with you and then a cohort would. That would collaborate with you through your four years at CSU, and it's almost a full right? It's not a complete full ride. Some students will apply for other scholarships and they'll get that scholarship, and they'll use the Blake scholarship to compliment it. An example of this would be if you were to go study abroad. The Blake Scholarship leadership program would help fund your study abroad program.
And so the funds are meant to enrich your experience at CSU and to support high achieving students. If you want to know more about this again, I can go ahead and jump on a one on one call with you afterwards with zoom, but that's one of the best things we have to offer. We're going to be launching in October a scholarship web and R as well, and that will go into more details about what we have available. Of course, we always encourage everybody to apply for financial aid.
Sidney Newbold
03:16:58 PM
Is the GPA requirement weighted for high school?
If you come from a background that, like a disadvantaged background, you can also sometimes apply for the Pell Grant the Pell Grant you do not need to pay back its money that is given to you in the form of a grant, so those are a few options for you to know about. The GPA requirement. Is it waited for high school? That's a great question. I believe it is, but I don't know for sure. I would have to ask my colleague his name is Cole Wise.
Jessica Rencher
03:17:18 PM
cole.wise@colostate.edu
And he is in charge of all of the application process. So I'm going to put his email in this chat and he would be a great person to reach out to after this web and R with additional details, he is the one who organizes it, puts it all together an reviews the applicant. So again his name is Cole lies great question on that Sidney.
OK, what other questions do you have? We've covered the arts within Fort Collins. We've covered some basic questions and scholarships I can continue to add things that I think are important, but if there's anything that's just weighing on you and you have a lot of questions about it, go ahead and type it in the chat.
In the meantime, I have another question for you.
Jessica Rencher
03:18:22 PM
Are you interested in a minor? If so, what minor would you like to pursue?
OK, so are you interested in a minor an if So what minor would you like to pursue?
And just so you know, for context we have 19 majors in about. It fluctuates between 54 to 58 miners and you can concentrate in the whole whole bunch of different areas. So a lot of times students will maybe choose to major in music and minor in business.
Or maybe they want to major in business an minor in psychology. Those are options that are available.
Have the traditional things that you would normally study, so when people think of the College of liberal arts there thinking of the typical things, history and English political science is very popular one because it's in.
Sidney Newbold
03:19:46 PM
Marketing or Business interest me, Political Science as well
Election year and then we have things like psychology and International Studies. But there's also those ones that you might not think of would fall into the College of liberal arts. So for interest, for example, econ false into the College of liberal arts. OK, so Sidney that's great question.
Marketing or business interest me policy as well so we have a flourishing Poli sci Department in again because it's an election year. It is going crazy with enrollment. Everybody's interested and wants to be involved in some way and I believe that will play out in the next four years no matter who gets elected. We're all going to be very interested in seeing how the political landscape is unfolding, so that would be a degree that you could.
Earned that would be very useful and you can take that a variety of directions. You can do. The pre law track you could go into something completely different, maybe social work, but policy is a versatyle versatyle degree. You could be a professor, a teacher, any of those kinds of things you could minor in business and you could do something within that college. They have a lot of options and then marketing if you want to do marketing you could also explore the option of doing communications.
It's along the lines of marketing and a lot of places will have a marketing and communications team, and so those 2GO hand in hand. So if you're looking at marketing, you might also want to look at communications as well.
Sidney, what other questions do you have in regard to your college search or the Fort Collins area?
What interests you in CSU? What made you come and look at it as an option for you?
And if nothing else is coming to mind, I have a few other things that students often ask.
Activities interests you.
You can go ahead and think about that and I'll type it in the chat just so you can see the question.
Jessica Rencher
03:22:21 PM
What extra curricular activities interest you?
Depending on what you answer, I can tailor my response to you. So Fort Collins is incredible. A fun fact about Fort Collins is that our downtown vault Disney came in side an he was visiting the town and when he was done exploring downtown, he said this is the perfect downtown and he decided to go in. Model his downtown in Disneyland.
After the Fort Collins downtown.

I am a dancer and interested in programs and studios, I also love to hike and spend time outdoors
OK, so you are a dancer and interested in programs and studios. You also love to hike and spend time outside. OK, so that really helps me. We do have a dance program and if you want to know more I can connect you with the person who runs all of that. We have a great dance studio, I know a lot about hiking so we have Horsetooth Reservoir. It overlooks Fort Collins.
And it's just beautiful rock that looks like at the tooth of a horse. So if you hike up there, it's actually a pretty challenging hike. But when you get to the peak, it overlooks the town and it's it's beautiful. Alot of students have a tradition where they'll hike to the top and then it'll be during their semester finals and so they'll go there in the morning and start off their finals week. Or sometimes they'll do a sense at hike during finals week.
We have a gazillion bike paths all over the town in one of my favourites is the Spring Creek Bike Trail. You can bike along that trail in ends well on along the trail is this little coffee shop. It's called the human being and I love to bike there with my backpack on. Grab my favorite coffee, drink mocha tea, and then I'll find a spot to quietly study along the path or go straight to CSU. I love finding those hidden gems in there.
All over town, so those are some extracurricular things that you can do. We have lots of clubs. One of our student ambassadors. She loves to knit in, so she found a bunch of people who like to knit and they started in Knitting Club. So if you don't find a club on campus that you love, you can always start one up. If you get the correct number of people who are interested in another way, you can be involved as the College of liberal arts has.
In opportunity for you to be a student ambassador, and most of these are violent ship volunteer opportunities. But we have three paid student ambassadors and they're called Ambassador Coordinators in their paid, usually about $3000 in scholarship funds and they work with me directly and they help me with our campus visits or communications in our marketing. So keep your eye out for scholarship opportunities like that as well.

In addition to those freshmen opportunities like the Blakes Leadership Scholars program so those would be the main things that I would tell you about, here is the zoom link if you would like to hop on a call with me one on one after this, an if you can type in the chat that you will be going to the one on one that would be helpful, just so I know if I need to stay on here and keep chatting or if you would like to jump on a one on one. So just let me know in the chat section if that's something that you would like to do.
I did that with some participants earlier this morning and it went really, really well.
So just let me know if that's something you would like to do.
So for those of you who are not going to jump on the one on one, I just want to thank you for joining us today. This web and R is a little shorter. It's really just to highlight some of the fun things at the College of liberal arts has to offer. With in Fort Collins in Northern Colorado, and of course when we work our way through Covid, we have so many more things but.
Again, we're always trying to be healthy through these times and make it so that it is, you know, a good experience for everybody, so I don't know if anybody wants to jump on the one on one. I'm not seeing anyone chat typing it in.
Sidney Newbold
03:27:06 PM
Can my mom zoom?
Yes, your mom can zoom and your parents are welcome to jump on it. OK, so I'm going to move over to that now and I will see you all there. Thank you again for joining us today and I look forward to chatting with you soon.
