I can hear you now
Perfect awesome good morning everyone. My name is Ciara Vance. I am an education abroad coordinator and the education abroad office at CSU. If at any point during the presentation today you cannot hear or see me, please make sure that you add a chat to the box in the bottom left corner. That way that I can troubleshoot that for us during the presentation.
As mentioned, my name is Ciara Van Simon, education abroad coordinator at CSU. I use she her hers pronouns. I'm going to be presenting today but my colleague Murray Showler who is also an education abroad coordinator at CSU, is going to be navigating the chat for us and so will both kind of be answering questions together both through the chat and through the presentation. So please feel free to send any questions into the chat box and will get those answers for you. I'm going to go ahead and get started, tell you a little bit about what I do at CSU and then tell you what education abroad looks like at CSU so.
Marie Schaller
10:05:40 AM
Thanks all for your feedback about Kiara's audio! I am going to clear out that helpful feedback so that we have a clean chat box. :)
As mentioned as a coordinator, I advise all undergraduate students going to Central and Northern Europe, which would be a France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland. Anything up into Scandinavia. Marie advises for a lot of Eastern Europe and then we have about, I think, six other coordinators. You guys, for other regions around the world I also advise any graduate students going abroad. So graduate student. We do have graduate students at CSU who go abroad for lots of different things a little bit differently than what undergraduate students go abroad.
Or however we do have options for both levels of study.
I just wanted to check the chat box to make sure I didn't miss anything.
So we have about one in 5 CSU graduates who have an international experience before they move on to their career field or choose to further their studies whether that be a Masters program any other type of certificate program or a PhD even we have students go abroad for lots of different things we have students who study abroad which means a tradition not traditional as in AUS American style educational classroom setting but a traditional classroom setting where their lectures they're taking tasks they're studying in the classroom with whether that be.
And other international students, whether abroad or even local students from the area where there abroad we have students complete research and field work requirements for their degree programs all around the world. We have students complete intern ships. We have Steve and some have students who do service learning opportunities with affiliate providers.
So what can you gain from an education abroad experience? Traditionally when we talk with students and parents in any other stakeholders who are looking to go abroad about what are the benefits of going abroad, we usually categorize it into three different areas. What does that look like for academic success? Professional success and the personal success and well being of every student? And so you know this can be. This will look very different for every student, pending on what you're studying, what you're where you're looking to go, what your career path you're hoping to project that into, and so.
In terms of academic success, students always will more than regularly bring back some sort of credit. Like I'd mentioned, whether that was field work in research, internship credit, academic credit, whether that be towards the credits, they need to graduate, or even their major academic requirements. Professional success. We are seeing studies go out all the time where employers are really looking for folks who have international experience is to really add that depth to their teams and personal success. This looks very different, but this could be anything from.
An increase in risk management skills risk mitigation skills while they're abroad. Skills in terms of interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships with themselves and with others. Lots of different personal successes in personal experiences that can come from this and so for me my first time going abroad, I'm still feeling the personal effects of those five years later, and obviously the professional effects of I'm an education abroad coordinator in pursuing a career in international education. And so it looks very different for every person.
Pending who the student is in what they're studying.
We have we advised for over 900 programs in 80 different countries over 80 different countries on all Seven continents. So we have students going around the world in lots of different places, doing lots of different things.
An initiative that our office started working with started working towards about two years ago or so, or what we call recommended programs lists. We started working with every academic Department on campus to create these lists, help students kind of narrow down programs that might fit best for their academic career path. So we created these programs in order to help students who are looking in specific programs abroad, as well as because we have so many programs on our website, even as coordinators that can sometimes be really overwhelming for us, and so these were not necessarily meant.
To only keep students with envies programs based on their academic plan, but it was also help kind of narrow down the amount of programs and options that are available on our website, not to mention the options that are available for unaffiliated, direct role, which I'll explain a little bit more about here in a moment.
We in our office we have what we call sponsored and exchange programs these are essentially just like what they sound we said and students to certain University is certain universities abroad and then they send students to our University and it's kind of an equal exchange balance are sponsored programs are set up very similarly except that University does not usually sends to CSU we send students to them but it works very similarly an exchange program in the terms of how the budget works as well as logistics in those types of things.
We advise for affiliate program, so we currently have 13 different affiliate providers. Affiliate providers are third party education abroad abroad providers who offer these experiences for students that might look a little bit differently in terms of academics or where they might be hosted, but they're not necessarily run by CSU. Traditionally. how I explain this is there are two main differences between what a spots in exchange program might look like as well as an affiliate program and Marie. If you'd like to add more context to this in the chat, I'd really appreciate that traditionally.
I look at it from a price point, so a lot of times affiliate providers. Do you have a higher price point, but a lot of that is because of the in person on ground support they offer at the location for your students or for yourself as well as different excursions that they might provide different types of housing options that they might provide. These types of things can vary between those two different types of programs, and so that's definitely something to consider and look at as well as the application process is different between an affiliate program and a sponsor exchange program. So for our sponsor and exchange programs because they are.
CSU affiliated we usually run that entire application process where as an affiliate provider you have two advisors. You kind of get 2 for the price of one, and the effect of that you have someone who's helping you with the affiliate of side of things and then you have us the coordinators here to help you with the CSU side of things. Once again there are a couple of other differences that might be between the two, but usually when I talk with students with the things that I highlight.
Well, like I said earlier, we also look at unaffiliated and erected roll options. These are traditionally for students who have are really looking for something specific, and they found it in a program that maybe isn't hope listed on our website. That does not mean that students cannot go abroad there, it just means there are a few additional steps. But it is an option. Another really great option that we have our staff and faculty like programs, so there once again very similar to how they sound. A CSU staff or a faculty member leads these programs traditionally these programs.
Marie Schaller
10:12:47 AM
When I talk to students they first find a program that works for them academically then they choose between affiliate vs sponsored programs- depending on their priorities
Are shorter term, so you're thinking 1 winter break maybe a month over the summer, but we do have some that are semester long as well as maybe even a little bit in between the length of a semester and then a shorter term and these in terms of budget and logistic you run somewhat similarly to our sponsors exchange. The effect that they are run through CSU in our office. However there are some intricate details in those application processes also, but as you can see we offer so many different types of Education abroad opportunities for our students and that's one of the reasons that I love working at CSU is.
The ability to provide students with so many different options to do what they're hoping to with their experience broad.
I just want to highlight what Marie said in the chat, so more he said when I talk to students they first find a program that works for them academically. Then they choose between affiliate versus sponsored programs depending on their priorities. So once again, in terms of.
It really depends on location, types of offerings within that location in the coordinator as well, but there's lots of different things to be looking at, which is something that we love. Doing with students is navigating through all of the options to ensure that students really do find the experience that's best for them as well as plan accordingly. Depending on what the program is and how they need it to work for them professionally, personally, and academically.
So just to highlight a couple of different programs, so are Macary University program in Australia is an exchange program, so once again this is one of those situations where Mccary would since been studs and we send students to carry.
Mccary is about 20 to 30 minutes outside of Sydney from I'm pretty sure so. Students have access to a train as well as direct transportation to get between the two.
Kinds I guy is another University exchange program. We since change them and they since choose to us so as mention.
The budgetary and logistical side of those programs, or something that CSU handles, and we work through the nomination process as well as work with every student through the entire T of the application process before, during while you're abroad and after. And once again we do that for every program, however, with sponsoring exchange there a little bit different in terms of that we run them from our side of things.
Our CSP prog program. This is a program that Marie advises foreign so if you have any specific questions, please feel free to put those in the chat.
Marie Schaller
10:15:08 AM
Has anyone traveled to Australia, Japan, or the Czech Republic?
A huge there is a pretty large curriculum for this program, so that's another thing that kind of changes.
That's another thing that kind of changes in terms of what the program might offer is. Some programs are very specific, so for example, I advise for a French language and culture program in close to Marseille, France, and this is a very intensive French language and culture program. There are not really any other courses that are tide to anything other than French language and culture was, so it's predominantly great for students who are studying French as a major as well as students who are predominantly looking into languages and cultures, whereas CSP prog.
Kyle Pinto
10:15:59 AM
I was planning a trip to Japan this summer but that didn't go as planned...I would still love to go sometime soon, though.
Has a larger curriculum and there's a lot more options for students in terms of what that can look like in what they can bring back. For my understanding Marie, please correct me. It's one of the really. It's a great program for some of our business students.
Abbie Adams
10:16:01 AM
Been to Japan and Czech Republic
So I'm just reading through that one more time. Want to make sure that we're not missing anything perfect, so if you have any questions about in terms of curriculum and academics and what that looks like, also acknowledge that that will look at different for every program and so it's really important when you're navigating those differences to think about that as well, and how you really wanted to transfer back for your program.
So a really great thing that CSU has is we have a Toto Santos Center in Mexico so total Santos in Baja California sword.
Marie Schaller
10:16:35 AM
Yes! The Prague program works well for business students and is very affordable!

10:16:44 AM
I have been to Australia
Alysa Silberman
10:16:50 AM
are there any study abroad programs you recommend for Zoology majors? I was supposed to go to Australia this summer
We essentially kind of a branch campus from CSU, and so we send. This is actually where we send the majority of our students who go abroad every year is to our total Santos Center. We have a few of our staff and faculty LED programs who run through the total Santos Center. We have graduate students who go there to do field work in research. We have students who study there and lots of different academic requirements. We have students who spent summers there in such a study. Spanish and lots of other academic realms.
It's a really great Partnership for us and we have a very close connection with our total Santos at staff.
So that's a really great program. If you really are student who maybe he's never been abroad before and you really want to make sure that you stay connected to CSU, the total Santos center is a great place to do that because once again it is a branch campus, so it is, you know, CSU staff as well as because that connection is so tight it might make students who are going abroad for the first time maybe feel a little bit more comfortable to have that built in additional support.
I'm so earn CSU are transfer credits from abroad. We never tell students that it's a matter of.
Marie Schaller
10:18:13 AM
Hi Alysa, there are recommended programs for Zoology listed here: https://international.colostate.edu/educationabroad/students/getting-started/recommended-programs-abroad/college-of-natural-sciences/
If the credits were transferred, it's a matter of how the credits will transfer, and this is traditionally because students need a certain amount of require a certain amount of credits to graduate, but also need a certain amount of academic major credits to graduate. So those are kind of two different ones, so it's never a matter of if it's a matter of how we have programs that range from. You can do a shorter term program that is anywhere between 3 to 6 credits, maybe even more over a summer or winter break, and then we have programs who can offer you a full semester anywhere from 12 to 18 credits.
Sometimes more, depending on the student, not something we usually recommend. We do usually recommend if you're going for a full semester to keep it between that 12 and 15. However, we do once again acknowledge it. What students need in their academic majors is different for everybody, and so depending on the comfort ability of the student, maybe the student who's been abroad quite a bit, or their experience in terms of what they need, once again, professionally, personally, and academically. We kind of range it in between that.
Melina Takvorian
10:18:53 AM
can you talk about finances, would a student who goes abroad for a semester be paying any tuition to CSU or would all of the money be going to the expenses of the study abroad program?
We have a really close partnership with our financial aid office. These are financial aid coordinators Cindy and Victoria. They work specifically with education abroad students and so we have this really great partnership with them that allows us to advise students in a dual capacity and so since they solely work with education abroad students, they're there to really help students narrow down their budget, get into the nitty gritty of what they need, what they are eligible for based on their FAFSA as well as.
Any scholarships that might be brought in something to think about is.
Em Perkins
10:19:44 AM
Are there any programs for neuroscience majors?
All scholarships at CSU go abroad. There are a couple of exceptions to that. Wowie is which is a grant does technically not go abroad, as we however, the financial aid office does put a granite place and there are only a couple other exceptions, but 99% of what students bring into CSS you can. Follow them abroad and so that's something to really help narrow down lacinia, Victoria's. They really go through every scholarship or every loan or every grant that you might be receiving in terms of your own personal. FAFSA information really help you navigate how will this go abroad with you.
And what will it look like for when you return?

Erin Rivard
10:19:54 AM
is there study abroad programs specifically for medical related careers?
Zach Shimpa
10:19:57 AM
Is there no program for a semester in Germany for ECE?
That's a really great sorry everything's coming in so fast. I'm so excited about it. Just give me just a second to kind of navigate so we did have one question about can you talk about finances? What a student who goes abroad for a semester? Be paying any tuition to CSU or would all the money be going to and expenses of the study abroad program? That's a great question so.
Every student goes abroad regardless of what type of program that you choose, whether it be affiliate, direct and roll or unaffiliated. Staff and faculty program, which we call S Phelps or an exchange program. All students will pay a CSU education abroad fee, which is dependent based on the summer and the semester. I believe there's about a $200 difference between the two and then will pay a tech fee of $25.00 so every student, for example, going abroad for a semester, pays a $625 fee.
Marie Schaller
10:21:14 AM
Hi Em and Erin! You can find the Recommended Program List here: https://international.colostate.edu/educationabroad/students/getting-started/recommended-programs-abroad/
Regardless of what type of program that they're going towards, but everything. So then if you're a studio, so for example, for my personal experience, any loans that I might have taken out for my summer program, they would have paid my institution CSU education abroad, feehan tech V. Any of those required fees, and then the rest of into posited into my account for me to pay for my program. So that's just one example to kind of help narrow that down, and if there are any other specific questions about that, please let me know in terms of once again, the finances for how much every each program costs and what is included in that price will look.
Different for every program as well as how that is paid. Depending on whether once again it's run through CSU or run through an affiliate. However, every student were Godless. A program type does pay that CSU education abroad fee and the taxi.
Let me know if that does not answer your question or if there are any follow up questions to that. Are there any programs for neuroscience majors? Absolutely Marie. If you don't mind dropping the neuroscience recommended programs list, I would be great. We have once again programs that fit all different types of majors across all different types of curriculum. One neuroscience, one that comes directly to mind, which is also a great program for any Sciences biochemistry.
Marie Schaller
10:22:10 AM

Health, human development and family studies. In terms of certain scientific or psychological aspects to that is RDS program which is an affiliate program in Scandinavia, they have locations in Sweden and in Denmark.
In Denmark and Sweden, and really great for any science majors. But Yes, Marie will drop that. Neuroscience recommended programs list. And then if you have any other specific questions about what that looks like, please feel free to reach out and ask us those as well.

Is there any programs located in the UK? Absolutely we have lots of different programs in the UK we send lots of students to the UK. We have all different types of type. All those different types, so affiliates exchange.
Gabriel Manzano
10:22:54 AM
Would those costs be covered under the GI bill?
Don't know if you have any staff and faculty like programs in the UK, but I do know for a fact that we have exchange programs as well as affiliate programs as well as we have had students. Do you want affiliated in direct and roll options? But once again very a lot fewer students do that option. The other three types.

How soon can CSU students expect to be able to study abroad? Do Freshman get to go, or do we have to wait until a later year?
Abbie Adams
10:23:17 AM
Im coming in as a freshman with an AS so Im looking at maybe only 2 years at CSU so how would that affect me on getting a spot?
Is there a study abroad program specifically for medical related careers? Yes, so once again that DS program, which is a great thing for health related degrees as well as science related degrees. So definitely something to look into. But we also do have a bio. I'm pretty sure it's bio health or bio medison recommended programs list on our website as well as you can see Marie's probably adding links to the chat further down. I'm kind of navigating through all the questions, but you can also search through there and then end up searching in that same.
Page for different recommended programs list.
Is there is there no program for a semester in Germany for ECE?
Not actually sure what you see is. If it's an affiliate, a type into Philly or third party provider that offers education abroad opportunities then I'm sure ECE might have programs in Germany. It might not be a direct partner of ours, but that would be one of those things where if that worked best for you across all three of those boards and none of the programs that we offered, you really felt were what you needed. We could make that happen. That doesn't mean that you can't just. Doesn't mean that it's a direct partner of ours.
And we have lots of different programs in Germany. Actually advised for Germany as well. I haven't worked with any students who are interested in ECE, but that once again doesn't mean that we aren't open talking about different programs might not be available on our website.
Aaron Gilbert
10:24:27 AM
Are there any programs through CSU in Jordan?
With those costs be covered under the GI bill, so that's a great question. We work. We actually have a GI bill recommended programs list as well.
And it talks a lot about that and we have our GI benefits students work really closely with our financial aid office in order to kind of gauge what what would be covered in what not traditionally with our GI bill, recommended programs list. Those are usually the programs that do work best in terms of transferring your GI bill benefits over to that University just because there are certain accreditations that have to be met in order to do so. and I would want to want to confirm this with Cindy in Victoria.
Marie Schaller
10:25:22 AM
GI Bill Recommended Programs: https://myedabroad.colostate.edu/_customtags/ct_FileRetrieve.cfm?File_ID=28517
However, I'm pretty sure that those caught the mandatory costs would be covered under your GI Bill, and then everything else would be dispersed to you. But once again, those programs listed on our GI bill benefits list. Are you a little bit more strict in terms of those there has to be a certain accreditation for us to transfer those funds for you over, and so those are going to be programs that are going to be a little bit more shared in terms of it might just have to be this list, but that doesn't mean that that's the extent. Once again, something that there's so many different study abroad programs that even our office wouldn't be able to know.
Every single one available, and so there you find something and you know that it works with your GI benefits and you want to talk about it. Please come and talk with us, we just have to make sure that it has that accreditation first.
What type of programs of any are in South Korea? A great question. I don't know any specifics off the top of my head that might be in South Korea, just 'cause I don't advise for that region, but definitely something that we could look into. I know that we have tons of graduate students who go abroad to South Korea to do.
Different types of research field work, conferences, lots of different things, but in terms of which specific programs I'm going to go ahead and navigate over to Marita. Just maybe answer a little bit more about how to find that.
Marie Schaller
10:26:30 AM
Hi Em! Yes! You can search through all the programs in South Korea by going to the Program Search and selecting South Korea under "Country" https://myedabroad.colostate.edu/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.AdvancedSearch
The recommended programs perfect.
How soon can CSU students expect to be able to study abroad? Do freshman get to go or do we have to wait until a later year so we actually just recently opened up some summer bridge programs for first year students? So there are a couple of options for first year students go abroad their first semester before they even come to CSU. There are few application requirements to that and I'm not sure about this specifics about how that looks, but you can definitely find that on our website, but we do offer a couple and we just recently opened them up.
Marie Schaller
10:27:20 AM
Gabriel! Certainly! Here is the recommended programs for Business Majors: https://international.colostate.edu/educationabroad/students/getting-started/recommended-programs-abroad/college-of-business/
In terms of traditionally, we do advise students to wait until their second year to go abroad. We don't recommend usually that students go abroad within their first year, however, that once again we do have those two bridge programs, and it's not necessarily that hasn't happened before in just a further discussion, but we do usually advise students to wait until their second year.
To answer the question about coming in as a freshman, so you might only be there for two years. And how would that affect getting a spot that's really up for you to decide in terms of when you're looking at programmes about when might be best. So when you're really looking at your academic plan, if going abroad is a priority for you, we can definitely talk through how that might look.
Marie Schaller

Hannah Bouquet
10:28:23 AM
If I want to get expire next working with kids would I have to go through the internship programs? Or is there more CSU affiliated programs where I can get expirence in the social work field?
Uhm, but I ultimately think that's that's ultimately your decision to decide when is best for you, and what would that in terms of getting a spot every program is different there are. We definitely do have some in our portfolio that have a smaller capacities, usually through some of our affiliate programs as well as our staff and faculty like programs. However, traditionally that it's not usually a question of when to get your spot, as long as you have the application in by the deadline, and some of them, especially affiliate providers, are rolling admission deadlines and so.
That's something that I think we need to talk about further in it. A one on one advising meeting will be sharing our contact information at the end, and so if you do want to set up, whether that be a phone call or video chat in order to kind of talk through more of that, please feel free to reach out to us and we'd be more than happy to do that.
Are there any program? Are there any programs through CSU in Jordan? Yes, we do have programs in Jordan I know for.
Marie Schaller
10:29:07 AM
Hi Hannah thanks for your question! Let me send you a link!
Are my supervisor who is also coordinator office Derek Smallwood. He advises for Jordan definitely sends a lot of students to Jordan who have thoroughly experience enjoy their experiences there, and so that's definitely an option. I'm I don't want to say that those are staff and faculty letter exchange programs which would be through CSU, but we do advise for programs that are through affiliate providers that go to Jordan.
Thank you Marie for putting all of this in the chat. I appreciate you, um, if I want to get if I want to get.
Experience networking with kids. Would I have to go through the internship programs or is there more CSU affiliated programs where I can get experience in the social work field? Absolutely as Marie said at Marie's, working on finding a link. But there are definitely options for that as well as there are even some programs that provide academics an an internship in the same and so that might be something to consider if you're looking to do academic study and get that networking type of first hand experience with children.

What year is the best year to go for a summer program? Should a neuroscience major save general classes to go abroad?
Might be another great option, but Murray looks. It looks like Marie is going to put that in the chat for you. These are all really great questions. Please continue to send them in. I'm going to go ahead and keep moving, but if there are anymore please go ahead and put them in the chat.

Should Neuroscience majors save general classes for summer abroad program?
Sorry about the delay in that, so these are all of our coordinators. Um, drew advises for Oceana an does some staff and faculty like programming Sarah O'Donnell, who is our assistant director. Advise is for all internships, an research where were undergraduate students are solely doing internships in research abroad or they are taking academic coursework. An intern ships abroad. That is where we do more of a dual advising role to make sure that we're make sure we're taking care of all the requirements from CSU based on your internship.
And your academic credit.
Nicole Paloski advises for Latin American semester at sea are really unique thing about semester at sea is that semester at sea is one of our direct partners. It's actually on campus, so it's housed at CSU and so that's really allowed us to provide a huge financial age structure for our students. Granted, with everything going on right now, there's a little up in the air about one semester at sea will be doing their next voyage. However, semester at sea is hosted at CSU and that is provided us a great partnership with them that is allowed us to send lots of students abroad and so.
If you're interested in semester at sea, definitely something that you're going to want to talk through with us in a one on one advising session, as well as how that will look moving forward.
George advises for Italy, Asia and, uh, some staff and faculty LED program, so the students who were asking about programs in South Korea or Japan, George is going to be a really great person to reach out and ask. We do have a general education abroad email which is a great place to start and then that way is we're navigating through questions we can send them to the appropriate coordinators.
Sadayo she fouyer advises for Spain, Portugal and summon staff and faculty like programs. As you can see I advice for Central Europe in northern Northern Europe, an individual travelers, which are what we call our graduate travelers Marie, advises for Eastern Europe and some staff and faculty like programming derricks. All would who's our international risk management manager advises for the Middle East and Africa and then Vanessa Hayward does all of our incoming exchange in staff and faculty LED program, so incoming exchange would be how I mentioned earlier Mccary, for example, we since June stomach area mccarrison students to.
So Vanessa would advise the students were coming to the USA from Mccary in order to study, whereas we would advise students who want to go to carry in, leave the US for study and then Christopher Snodgress advises for our UK and Ireland programs.

These questions above all relate to the same thing: when should you start planning: as early as possible! This will help you determine which classes you should take abroad and when you should go

If we are certain we want to study abroad within our four years, should we set up a meeting early to plan it into our four years or as we approach the term we would like to study abroad during?
We have a few more questions I want to go ahead and make sure we answer. So what year is the best year to go for a summer program? Should our neuroscience major save general classes to go abroad? Once again, this is something that you're really going to want to find down once you start talking about your academic plan. These are these are very specific questions that I would actually recommend setting up a one on one type of conversation with us just so that we can answer them more directly. 'cause that's going to look very specific to you. And so, as mentioned, when I give that general information at the end.
Please reach out to us so we can set that up. Would be more than happy with that.

How do honors studies fit with study abroad?
Uh, if we are certainly want to study abroad within our four years, should we set up a meeting early to plan it into our four years? Or as we approach the term we would like to study during great question. So our preferences coordinators is that we would like students to start planning education abroad experience at least a full semester before hand, maybe even a year before hand. We do open our programs with it with a year open and so they are open every term the year before that actual term. So for example, Spring 21 program spring 2021 programs opened at the beginning of Spring 2020 program.
Those applications are already open. However, we do acknowledge that's not always the case, so one full semester is preference in terms of if you know you want to go abroad and you want to really figure out how that's going to work in your four year plan that something you really want to talk to. Your academic advisors about really. Tell them that that is a priority for you, even if you don't know where you want to go yet, or what that looks like, they will tell you to come to speak with us, which we will, but letting them know and making sure that they know that will really help tie it in. At the beginning, we never, there's no amount of time that's too early to start preparing.
I knew I wanted to go abroad as a first year I was preparing before I, you know, before I even started at the University, what did I need to do? There's no amount of time that's too early to start preparing.

Hi Marie, could you please recommend some programs for Political Science/Philosophy majors, Thanks!
OK, if you find a program so sorry if you find a program that sounds interesting, but it doesn't list your major. However, it's in the same college. Is that possible to still go there? It depends on the types of credits that you're required to take, so if it's for a different major but in the same Department or the same college.
Look at what classes overlap between those two. If there are classes that overlap, that would automate that. Would usually tell us that you can bring back credit for those courses. However, that's going to be something once again, that you really narrow down with your education. Your education abroad coordinator, and your academic advisor as you're talking about what term you want to go abroad.
We definitely have students who do go abroad to get credits more towards their University. Required credit amount. However, that's a little bit more farther and few in between, but it is doable and we have had students do it. I just think once again a very specific related to you question that as you start to really think about where you want to go and you start to plan for it, we're going to want to narrow down and navigate a little further.
If we are certainly want to study abroad within our four years, should we set up a meeting early? I'm so sorry. I think I answered that one.

Hi Gaby! I like to start with recommended programs. Take a look at the programs listed under Political Science and Philosophy and let me know if you see one that catches your eye! https://international.colostate.edu/educationabroad/students/getting-started/recommended-programs-abroad/college-of-liberal-arts/
We do have an honors recommended program list as well and we do work very closely with our honors program. A lot of are there are a lot of programs within our honors recommended programs list that do fulfill two of the major requirements for all honor students, and so there's definitely options for that. And then, once again, there's no amount of time before hand. It's too early to start preparing for an education abroad opportunity. There's so many something I really like to talk about with my students is acknowledging that the application process within itself is very tedious.
It is long and there are a lot of steps. However it is so worth it, and so that's why we never discourage students from taking too much time to prepare. We love that, but we also knowledge that's not always the case, but please know that there's never too much time before hand to start preparing.

what are the best places for entrepreneurship
Sorry, the slides are taking a little bit longer to load, so next steps this is really going to go back to like I just said the amount of time that you need you need for yourself prepare. So if there were some of those specific questions that I said that I might not be able to answer in this net this specific setting, please go ahead and reach out to our our general email which I'm about to provide and we would be more than happy to talk with you, whether that be over the phone via video chat, whether it be with you there, be with you and your.
Your parents or your family or guardians, whoever is really has some very specific questions. We'd be more than happy to do that with you before you start. At CSU would also be more than happy to do that with you during our first semester, every fall in September, we do host a education abroad fair here. It will be virtual, so that's going to be something you're going to want to lookout for and really take part in, especially if you're coming in and you know you want to go abroad and your first or it within your four years or within your undergraduate degree.
Then definitely want to attend that if you can. That way you can start to really explore different options as well as maybe ask some of those general questions if you can't set up a meeting prior to that.
But that would be a next step, really starting to navigate during that first meeting. We usually help students navigate the website for the first time to kind of really show you where you really need to be looking. We go through a different couple of different programs with you that that you feel are interesting, or they work with your degree plan, or they have an element like an internship or a field work aspect that you really enjoy. We usually will go through those couple of those programs with you just so that from a coordinators perspective you know what we would look at. But then we kind of really leave it up to you.
To continue to do that, research that you need to figure out what works best for you, and then once you've decided we help you navigate through the application process.

Hey there Marie, could you send a link to any programs connected to the majors in the Warner College of Natural Resources/Environmental Science?
Best places for entrepreneurship. Another really great question. Thank you Marie. Um, so as I'm going to go ahead and leave Marie to kind of help answer those questions for you through the chat. And then I'm going to go ahead and continue on to share some of our information and then at the end just 'cause we'll have a little bit extra time about 5:00 or so. Minutes will do a little cute little bit more Q&A, but once again, if you do have specific questions or your questions don't get answered before the 10:45 spot, I want to make sure they were being intentional with everyone's time.
Please reach out to us to our our general email. That way we can answer those questions for you.
Sorry about the delay in the slides, so if you have any want to set up a meeting or do you have those specific questions that you didn't feel you had the time to answer today or they came up for you after this presentation, please reach out to our educational productcolostate.edu email. Once again, this is a general email, but whoever is working with that email each day will forward it on to the appropriate people who might be able to further answer your question in the most effective way or that person if their general questions sent Marie sending the recommended programs list.
And whoever is working the email that day will send you that recommended programs lists just so that you have that context.
And then if you do have any, you do need to call for any reason to set up anything. Our number is 970-491-6342. We're not all physically in the office space at this time, so I do recommend that email is the best form of communication to get ahold of us. However, that number is also directly linked to the email, which allows us to get voice mails and forward those along as well. So if you do have to call whether it be for an Accessibility reason or you just prefer to do that.
Please feel free to do that and it will get to us and we will forward it along as appropriately. However, the email might be the best and quickest way to get ahold of us. OK, so I'm going to go ahead and start navigating through a few more questions. Once again, I want to make sure we're cautious of everyone's time, so if I don't get to everyone or Marie doesn't get to everyone right now, we want to apologize for that. But we really do encourage you to reach out to us with those questions. Like I said, We are more than happy to answer them for you, and we wish that we could answer them on this one session.
So the next question was, would you mind sending the link for education and early childhood majors program please? I think Murray is working on that.
Is studying abroad ill advised if you don't know what your major is yet and what would you recommend?

HI Sarah! That's a great question. I recommend setting up an appointment with an Education Abroad Coordinator. That way we can ask you what you are interested in and what your goals are.
Marie Schaller
10:41:28 AM
Thanks Hannah!
Very very specific question and very much depends on the person so I have it by students who are currently undeclared but have a ton of major or a ton of credits towards one specific program and they know for a fact they're going to declare it they just haven't yet that looks a little different than if a student has taken a lot of general electives and doesn't quite isn't quite sure what they might want to do next it doesn't mean that it still advising we don't have programs that could fit it's just that it's going to be very specific on what types of credits you're trying to bring back what does that look like moving forward once again.
Very specific question that we love to dive deeper with you in a one on one conversation, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with not knowing what your major is yet at all. And we can definitely talk through that in terms of education abroad experience.
There is a webinar for semester at sea tomorrow morning in case anyone wants to join perfect. Thank you for putting that in there. So there is a webinar for semester at sea tomorrow morning. If anyone is interested in that opportunity. I'm pretty sure Nicole will be walking through that and so she's incredible. Definitely recommend taking apart.
In that presentation, what sort of opportunities are available for economic students? Once again, we do have a recommended programs list for that.

Hi Hannah! To connect with your Education Abroad Coordinator please email educationabroad@colostate.edu!
How do we get ahold of our education abroad coordinator? Go ahead and reach out to this general email This general email, like I said, is the quickest way or once again, if you do prefer to call and leave a voicemail, you are more than welcome to do that. Once again, we're not physically in the office space, but we do get notifications of those voicemails. We do listen to them and we do follow up and so whichever way is most accessible for you, please do so. But I definitely recommend that email as the easiest way to get ahold of us correctly. You can also find all of our personal information on our website and like I said, We do prefer you reach out to.
Marie Schaller
10:43:17 AM
Hi Dani! Here is the link to Warner College of Natural Resources Recommended Programs: https://international.colostate.edu/educationabroad/students/getting-started/recommended-programs-abroad/warner-college-of-natural-resources/
The general email first, but if you had very specific emergency questions you can reach out to us directly from our website. Our sense you know, especially for Europe, we do have five advisors or coordinators just within Europe, and so the way that they are labeled could be a little confusing in terms of how you might look at Europe and so that's one reason I think general is just easier because we are so fortunate to have so many coordinators, but a lot of our regions do obviously like meet together and intermingle in terms of labeling and so I think that that's why the general email is best.
Just seeing what Marie is put in there. OK, great.
I think we have time for maybe one or 2 more questions if there are any other big things that are popping up for folks if there's another if there's a slide you'd like me to go back to and maybe offer a little bit more context.

Could you elaborate on research opportunities and what those look like?
Could you do more than one study abroad program? Great question. Yes you can. We have students who so now it semesters not the full length that we do have students who go abroad for a full academic year calendar year. That is a term that we do offer already and so we do have students that do that. I actually am advising a student right now who just spent F full academic year so 2019 to 2020 originally planned so did not have to apply for two separate.
Masters applied for just a full academic year in France and then actually finish the full year and advocated traditionally. We don't allow students to do more than two semesters, but for this specific student in other students in the past it's worked out and so the student advocated to spend 1/3 semester abroad and will it still in France, is spending the summer there and will be continuing his studies in France with a different program for the third semester. So we do have students that do it. Once again, it is very specific. We really have to look at what we have to work with your academic.
Um advisor very closely make sure that we're not. You know that the credits will transfer. All credits are going to transfer over the way that you need them to transfer over. I'm especially if you are a student who does want and plans to graduate in four years, it's going to be really important that we were really narrowing narrowing it down to how that might work best for you.
And so really, once again, a very specific questions to talk about with your academic advisor and your education abroad coordinator as you're planning. But we do have students that have done that.
Where can I find more information about merit scholarships for study abroad on it? We do have a scholarships page on our website. Murray. If you would mind dropping that really quick, I'd really appreciate that. We list not only internal scholarships that we offered through CSU departmentally scholarships that are offered from different colleges campus as well as external scholarships that are really advised for in our office. So for example, are the Gilman Scholarship. The Gilman is an international scholarship that were at the National Scholarship run through the US Department of State. The students used for international experiences.

The German scholarship was unique to it is that, UM, it's predominantly for pelvis for Pell Recipients only, as well as students who are traveling to a country with a travel advisory of one or two. They do also have a Gilman McCain scholarship, which is for any dependance of active military so those are a couple of external scholarships that are really important. But in terms of merit those are also listed on our website.
Um, thank you Marie for putting that in there.
Marie Schaller
10:46:48 AM
Hi Jackson: Here is the program list for Economics Students: https://myedabroad.colostate.edu/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.SearchResults&Program_Name=&Program_Type_ID=1&pi=%7F&pc=%7F&pr=%7F&pt=%7F&p_10009=%7F&p_10009_t=MULTI&p_10008=Economics%7F&p_10008_t=MULTI&p_10002=%7F&p_10002_t=MULTI&Sort=Program_Name&Order=asc&pp=10009%2C10008%2C10002
Could you elaborate on research opportunities and what those looks those look like? Yeah, so this will also look very different depending on which program you're going through. That has a research component, so something that comes to mind, for example, SIT which is technically stands for School of international training, its affiliate program that's run through Vermont, and they what's unique about them is they have a research components as part of almost all of their programs to where students do have the option of doing like an.
Individual research plan and so that's unique in the fact that it's towards the later part of the students term, whether that be a short-term a semester term or longer term, but in terms of research, like solely just research opportunities, those will look very different on based on location as well as what you're expecting and what you need. So those are some great questions. Ask Sarah O'Donnell specifically, and so if you want to ask questions about that, send an email to our general email saying that.
Marie Schaller
10:47:47 AM

Asking those questions and then they will be forwarded on to Sarah and Sarah will be able to answer those more directly. But like I said, it will look very different depending on the type of program.
We got all the questions for now, so I'm going to go ahead and just kind of clothes off a little bit. But once again please continue to send us messages to our. Our general email will definitely. Our team is really good about a quick turn around in terms of response and so shouldn't take long for you to get a response from any of those questions. Once again, if you send some more general questions then whoever is in terms of.
