When I said I think like 80 something registered, I just looked at it.
So yeah, we will just give it a minute here.
While we wait. FYI, for those of you that are here. If you hear dogs barking in either of our backgrounds, 'cause Alexa and I both have Golden doodles.
Winston is more likely to bark then my guy, Virgil over here, but that's just 'cause he's a puppy.
Hopefully my Wi-Fi cooperates today, so I don't cut out randomly mid sentence.
So we can literally, I think, just give it another minute or so here and let folks.
OK, so it seems like her number is going to be around 25 here, uhm?
We might as well just get started, specially 'cause we start with introductory stuff anyway, um.
Move my screen here. Uh, OK, so how everyone? My name is Lauren Branch an I am the assistant director for marketing and communications with the campus Recreation Department.
Yeah, so obviously we are here to represent the campus Recreation Department and give you all a glance at what that means and what our Department has to offer.
Yeah, so if you have questions please feel free to add them to the chat throughout the presentation.
We will take our take some time at the very end of our web and are here to answer all of those questions, especially because there's a chance we might answer the questions throughout the course of giving our presentation. Formal presentation here. So just wanted to give that disclaimer ahead of time there.
And so it kind of starting to kick it off here. I just kind of wanted to talk about the fact that you know most folks when they think about campus recreation.
At you know different universities across the country. There's this common assumption that we kind of just like roll balls out and let people play, you know, pick up. So it's like, essentially, people just think of campus recreation as the facility were folks can come and play pick up basketball or workout or run on the track, or used various equipment to whatever.
We just do whatever physical activity that they choose to do within the building, but we offer a lot more than that and so specifically what we're going to talk about. Talk about today are the different services programs in events that we offer within the Department In addition to those.
Come in on your own and do your own workout type of activities.
Yeah, so the next thing that we want to do, assuming that it works today, is that a Alexa we're going to have you tried to do the screen share just in case my Wi-Fi decides to not cooperate again. So Alexa is going to try and screen share so that she can show a.
Video of a one of the University mascots Cam the Ram. This is specifically to Lake Cam. For those of you who may or may not be familiar, we have two mascots. There's actually another ram who also is named Cam, who is like an actual four legged ram. So that's cool.
And then yeah, just FYI. If you have audio issues, no worries. There aren't any words in this particular. The audio of this video. There's just some music, but yeah, so I'll go ahead and let Alexa play that.

Cam the Ram Tour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnPfN0yiYn8&feature=emb_title
Alright, so uh, that was Cam the Ram taking a tour of the rec. If the video looked a little funky for anyone else. Just FYI we did put it a link to that video in the chat and then so that video is a few years old now and we're going to be replacing it sooner than later but.
We haven't had any major renovations in the building, so the good news there is that that is a pretty accurate, accurate representation of what the building looks like. So one now just kind of run through some of the features of the wreck as a facility, an one of which is our two floors of cardio, which you saw in the video as well. And what you might not have got see the video is that there's this really beautiful view of the mountains from that cardio area and we also have shade, so no worries like you know when the sun is setting throughout the course of data shades come down to make sure that folks aren't being blinded while trying to.
But there's that really cool view there. We also have three rate rooms, one of which is an Olympic style weight room that we added in 2018, and that will actually be the next video that we show here. After I'm done with this section.
And we also have a gym with four basketball courts that Jim is primarily almost always open. Will talk a little bit more about the busy times for pickup basketball, but other than that that Jim is pretty much open for folks to play basketball, play basketball. And we also have another gym called the Mac Gym, which is like a multi activity core area. And that's where we have our drop in.
What we refer to as drop in which is essentially the same word as like pick up for those of you who are really familiar with that recreation slang.
The Mac Jim just is kind of a space where we specifically have it scheduled for different sports. So badminton and volleyball and some others that Alexa will list here later, but that's what that is. And then we also have 4 fitness studios, two of which are actually pictured in the first and second photos on this slide. So the second one, that's the cycling studio I believe. Since that particular photo was taken, we actually have more cycles.
In there right now, but, um, talk more about that in a second. But In addition to that, we have a studio that's dedicated to all of our yoga classes, which is in the upstairs part of the building. And then this particular studio is our largest studio where we hold group fitness classes as well.
Yeah, no studios, especially this big one. And then also there's a couple smaller ones that are similar to it and the yoga studio are usually open whenever there is not a class scheduled there. And there's always a schedule right outside the door so folks know when they're open. You know, I've definitely seen students doing that dance rehearsals in those spaces and things of that nature as well. Outside of our formalized classes. So just know that that is that we have that kind of space here at the rec.
Um, and something else that I was kind of like, Uh, I guess popped into my brain as I was talking about the cycling studio. Is that, you know, there's some of these areas that are going to be that are going to look different for at least the beginning of, if not all of the fall semester and potentially all of the academic year. So as we go throughout the course of the.
Presentation I'll try my best to talk about some areas that may look different. For example, we don't know what all of our programs are going to look like and what our studio space is going to look like. What can be open when? How many people can we have in that space and things of that nature? And then the reality of.
The uncertainty that we're all living in right now due to the pandemic that's going on is that, UM, things are constantly changing too, so some of these things were going to essentially focus on like what are space in programs and things normally look like normally, but there is going to be some sort of a new normal after were able to reopen the facility as well, so.
That regard, I'll keep going and talking about more features of the actual rec center, UM, so one of the first things that you can see in the building when you walk in and look to your right is the 55 foot climbing wall, which is really cool.
And then we also have a mat room, so it kind of.
Serves in a similar way as the studios that we were just talking about, where fitness classes take place. This is where are.
A martial arts and also self defense courses take place in the mat, room them at room literally has like the nice off mats so they can so that you know folks can like actively like fall in like like be tossed on the ground and things of that nature during those specific courses and activities. And then there's also punching bags. I believe there's at least two different sizes of punching bags. I don't know. I don't know. I don't have the personal knowledge of punching bags to say like what kind they are, but.
I know there's at least two different kind in that room up, and then we also will talk about our massage therapy program later, but we have a massage studio where we have a massage therapy like space. Essentially that has two studios in it and those studios are essentially private rooms, so if you were to book a massage you would get that in a private space that with the door.
That is closed and really peaceful space and things of that nature, and then the other photo and something else that was shown up pretty well in the.
Video is the Aquatic Center, so we have four lap lanes in the Aquatic Center. We have a current channel that is like kind of like a Lazy River. Essentially we have a 40 person spa which is like huge. Honestly, it's really nice to be in there even just by yourself or with a few people. And then we also have a sauna and steam room as well and something else that I can say specifically about some of these things is I'm not sure.
If Massage Therapy is something that will be happening in the fall, at least initially when we reopen and then there may be some aspects of the Aquatic Center that have to be closed. If not be completely closed. So again, that's just some things. Unfortunately we don't have the full answers too, but those are a couple areas that I know will be affected and I would assume that you know them at room and climbing wall will be affected in some way, shape or form as well.
And so now Alexis Gonna do another screen share and show you give you all a look at the Olympic weight room that we added in 2018.
Yeah, and while Alexa goes back to our presentation gets back to our presentation here. One thing I'll add specifically is that that space was created because it was something that was.
Uh, a desire of students. An inquiry that we kept getting to add some of that specific equipment that's in that room. So if you all get our facility and there's something that you would like to see added, like it does, it really doesn't hurt to pass that suggestion on to us via email or our suggestion box in the facility or anything like that, because you never know what could come out of that.
An now Lex is going to talk about some of the services that we offer at the within the Department.
Loren Branch

Olympic Weight Room: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdgidcmYSp8
Yep, I was needed. I completely forgot I muted myself. Sorry about that, um, so one of the things I like to point out specifically about to incoming students is the difference between intermural sports and sport clubs and essentially intermural sports is where folks sign up for a team or sign up as a free agent. And what I mean by free agent, as you can sign up as an individual as like the expressing interest in export and then you can be added to.
A team with dogs if you don't have enough folks to make your own team uhm, and so you can sign up that way and essentially you play against other CSU students, but then also sport clubs is essentially the level below Varsity Sports on a college campus where sport clubs are student organizations that go around the not just the state of Colorado.
But in the Rocky Mountain region, but across the country and compete against other universities, sport clubs as well, and so specifically we have 30 sport clubs ranging from swimming to lacrosse and we're actually adding women's Basketball this fall.
Then Yeah, like I mentioned, there's national level competitions and traveling and then those sport clubs receive some funding from the Department. Take a student fees essentially. Then they all those clubs also have their own like individual membership dues. And you know, in order to offset some of those costs for all of the equipment to travel and things of that nature, sport clubs do a lot of different.
A fund raising opportunities from sponsorships tuxpan, two fundraisers at Chipotle, and things of that nature.
So yeah, that's just another example there.
And that's the difference between Iams and sport clubs, I think, uh, another couple things that before I move onto the talking about outdoor programs that I just kind of wanted to jump backwards too, is again mentioning that you know, our fitness programs are Aquatics programs. An IM sports may all look differently depending on what the public health standards are related to the pandemic. One of the things that I know right now is that locker rooms maybe?
Um locker rooms in the use of lockers. Generally speaking in our facility, maybe.
Limited or completely unavailable? Again, I'm not 100% sure what that looks like just yet. We don't have everything in place again because things are still changing and we have a while before the fall semester, which is when will most likely reopen and then I would say like outdoor gear rental is another thing that we've talked about, which is great 'cause I'm getting ready to get into outdoor programs, but that's another area that may also be affected because that gear is essentially like rented out to folks and reused often.
It's thoroughly cleaned for sure, and something that we were doing before the pandemic as well, but because of the fact that it gets used by so many different people that might look a little different, something else to to add here. You know I'll come back to that after I talk about some other outdoor program related things, so our outdoor program they do about 50 to 60 trips a year, which are usually in which are usually like either in Fort Collins or somewhere in Colorado.
But they also like those trips, sometimes also go up to like snowy range for skiing and things of that nature. And those trips happen throughout the course of the academic year, and they are led by students staff, which I which is something I will come back around to here shortly.
And also our professional full-time staff as well are part of those trips and taking them in leading those trips to the various areas and then another thing that we offer on Tuesdays is free clinics, and they cover some different topics, including back country cooking an avalanche safety.
And then, like the outdoor program, also has um climbing competitions within the facility as well.
There's one every semester so far since I've been here. That's what what's happened. And then also there that they host like film festival's for a different for new outdoor films and short films every year. If you are a big outdoors person and that's something that you would be interested in, definitely suggest keeping your eye out for the marketing communications that we put out about that. Because like the festival that happens over the course of a weekend, that one specifically.
Uhm, I saw it sell out pretty quickly, so just keep that in mind and then yeah, like something else we touched on. Is that the outdoor gear rental falls under this area of outdoor programs and services as well?
And yeah, I can't remember I had anything else to add there, but if if I do it'll come back to main uhm, so this next video I don't. It's like it's 5 minute video and it's kind of long, so I'll talk about it and then we can put the link over here in the chat in case you all are interested, but this video is award winning video is actually a video that we put together about a little over a year ago.
Alexa Asher
02:32:15 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe_5YLS0x9U&feature=youtu.be I Am A Woman - OP program
And it essentially is some of the women that work in our outdoor program talking about their experience working in the outdoor industry and then also working on campus rec and taking part of the.
Being a part of the trips and working in the outdoor program and things of that nature, so it's just a really really cool. I would even say inspiring video. I wasn't here when it's made, so that's not any bias at all. I've just. I'm just someone who has had a chance to watch it a few times, so.
Yeah, so next slide just kind of wanted to close our presentation here talking about.
The different employment opportunities at the rec. Uhm, so we are one of the largest student employers on campus employing over 340 students, staff members and some of the area. Well, the areas that we offer include like member services, so those are the folks who are sweat taking payments, wiping people in it, building work, the front desk and things of that Nature. Recreation Supervisor is are like highest level.
Um student position essentially, where folks actually like supervise other building. Other positions within the building and enforce policies and things of that nature and just generally supervise the building.
That's those like though that position specifically to point that out is like is the one that.
Is kind of like leading the charge of like overseeing the building when the full time professional staff is not there. So that's really cool. Yeah, talked about outdoor trip leader is lifeguards or students as well.
Lex and I have our own team up with marketing students as well. We have a team of nine graphic design social media things of that nature, so if that is an area of interest for you, keep that in mind. We also higher officials slash referees. One of the really cool things about that is I would say they are the most active position outside of our Department as well. You know we have officials that literally travel the country to do regional and national tournaments as well.
And so something else that is important for our Department is student development.
And so we have a student Development Fund will respect where students can literally apply. Student employees can apply for.
Funds in order to get certified and get some kind of certification or to take some kind of course, especially if it's directly related to their position and things of that nature or that will benefit them in the future. And so you know. Just generally speaking, there's that. And then we also have what is called our rec development program, so our student employees have some mandatory courses that they have to take as employees.
Uhm and then some optional ones as well. And you know that is kind of like centered on various areas of professional development, which include equity, diversity and inclusion. And then also.
Like just kind of like some strategic organizational type of topics, generally speaking. So what I will add the peace, I'll add there too, is just as far as student development goals. It's important for us.
It's important to us as a Department, not just to develop our students to help them improve with their position within our Department, but also to grow and areas that will help that will benefit you all after graduation as well. And then also our student employees have opportunities to participate in service and volunteer volunteering within the Fort Collins community as well.
So that is the end of our four.
Normal presentation, somehow we I think we have answered everyone's questions because we don't have any questions in the questions area, but we do have a few minutes here. If you have a question, something we haven't answered and you want to type that into the box will give a couple minutes to do that. In the meantime, these are our social media handles on the different websites, so please feel free to find us there. Instagram is our most active site, or as are most active account and.
That's where we provide updates and new content and things of that nature.

02:36:59 PM
can anyone apply to work at the facility or only certain students?
Evelyn Greenbury
02:37:01 PM
What IM sports do you offer?
And that actually reminds me just to kind of throw it out there we like because our even though our facility is closed right now, we're still offering a Instagram live fitness class on Wednesdays. And we also.
OK cool, we got questions coming in. We also are posting content on a pretty consistent basis right now, but I'm going to shut up so we can make sure we answered these questions.
Yeah, anyone can apply to work at work at the rec, including freshman. I'm really glad that you brought that up. Ask that question because we did get a question during our last session about whether or not freshman can apply to work at the rec. And you most certainly can. Our most popular times for hiring are like the beginning and end of semesters and it.
Really depends on what's going on with in the respective program area. If they are hiring.
Alexa Asher
02:38:06 PM
All the IMs are listed here: https://csurec.colostate.edu/intramural-sports/
And what else was I going to add to the other piece? I was going to add? Is that as far as applying goes, you all have probably been exposed to ram web at least a little bit at some point at this at this point. And Ram Web is your student portal where there's a lot of resources for you all and the.
Kaidan Capossere
02:38:13 PM
Are you planning on still offering the outdoor program trips in the fall?
And essentially you can log on to ram web and that'll get you to handshake, which is where we list all of our student positions. So there's a lot of student employment resources there as well, including handshake, and that's where we list all of our student positions. So keep your eye out there. Like I said, the Times were most likely to be hiring, are beginning and end of each semester, so just keep that in mind.
Uh, yeah, what time? Sports we offer that link that Alexa sent will have them all listed the most popular IM sports that we offer our.
Basketball, soccer and flag football. We also one of the unique ones that I know we offer that I had that I can't say that I've seen it every other institution that I've been at is archery, so that was pretty cool.
Yeah, so I think you know that going but going to that website will definitely that link that link that Alexa posted. Jeez, I'm like losing my words here. That will definitely get you to a list of all of our sports.
Lydia Sinanian
02:39:21 PM
Do you think club sports will be open to join in the fall?
Yeah, so a good question about the outdoor program trips. It's kind of up in the air right now to be honest. What those what will be able to offer? I think you know as we get closer to August will be posting more information about what it will be possible. what I can say is that I'm hopeful that we'll be able to have some form of those trips, and in some way shape or form. Even if we just do horsetooth here in town and we have a limited number of people and.
After it, like in four social distancing and wearing mask or whatever the case may be.
Yeah, I'm hopeful that we'll be able to offer some sort of trips, but there's no definitive answer to that right now, unfortunately, just because the standards public health standards keep changing.
Yes, then I would say it's a very similar answer for club sports as well.
What I will say in Alexa, can you add a link to the club sports page as well?
Is that when it comes to club sports?
Alexa Asher
02:40:49 PM
Club Sports Link: https://csurec.colostate.edu/sport-clubs/
That's gonna be a really difficult one to say. Whether or not will be able to have competitions, for example, or that teams will be able to travel and things of that nature, I think it'll all really depend on how things shake out. With the pandemic over the course of the summer. As we get closer to August, I expect that will have some sort of a better answer for that as well, and something else that I will add about club sports that I forgot to mention. So I'm glad this question was brought up. Thank you for asking.
Is that on? If you go to the link that Alexa just shared for the sport clubs.
All of the sport clubs have their own web page with contact information for those paid for those clubs and specific information for those clubs. And we keep those updated as much as possible so you can go there to check out information from this previous academic years.
Club Ann and what they've what they've done in the past and then they should have. They have more information about their specific clubs as well. So if you are interested in a specific sport like there's no wrong time. It's never too early to reach out and to try and get that information, because if we do, if we are able to have sport clubs in the fall, those.
Like tryouts, an meetings happen pretty early in the fall semester, so that's something else to keep. Keep in mind as well. So yeah, so you can reach out to those respective clubs.
There any other questions? I know where a little overtime here, but election. I have little flexibility.
Anything else come through on the question, thing Alexa.
Nope, not that I've seen.
Cool, so I will take that as a sign that we have answered all of the questions somehow, so that's great. And if we have not answered all of your questions, Alexa, if you could drop the link to the main web home page of the website. This is how you can contact us. Is just CSU rec at Carlos States LTE.

And since you know where all the virtual campus right now, so please feel free to reach out.
And yeah, that it that concludes our web and are here. I don't really have much else to add. I appreciate you all coming to spend some time with us and learning about the wreck and we look forward to seeing you on campus in the fall as as hopefully everything goes according to plan in that regard.
I like say anything else to add.

Thank you guys so much! Have a lovely day :)
Yeah, happy Friday. Have a great weekend everyone. I'm the one thing I will add is if there are any incoming black students, happy Juneteenth as well. Alright, so thank you everyone.
